DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

It might also just have been a favor based on understanding of changed circumstances. I've seen talk online that originally Keaton's Batman was to appear in Aquaman 2, but now that Aquaman 2 comes out before The Flash, they apparently called Affleck to reshoot the part.
It would make sense for Affleck to agree to it seeing as it would probably only be a day or two of shooting and then be done with the part forever.
Or until in 20-30 years, there's enough nostalgia for his Batman to return the way Keaton's is now.

I really liked Affleck as Batman so I'm glad we're getting more of him. I know he had sworn he was done with the role after Justice League, and I had assumed The Flash would be the absolute very last we'd see him, so I'm pretty shocked. I wonder what changed his mind? A truckload of money? A better experience working on The Flash?
He was only "done" when being an alcoholic but also going to rehab in an attempt to get it under control was considered a unforgivable thing by Warner Brothers; and they felt such publicity would negatively impact the box office.

But compared with a mentally unstable and possible pedophile, now that recovering alcoholic situation is nothing.

He's in a better state of mind now. Also he doesn't have to carry the burden of the Batman role. Before it was just him and pressure to write and direct his own solo movie.

League of Super-Pets is bombing. It looks set to make half of what Lightyear did and a quarter of Minions did in their opening weekends even without any real box-office competition.

Affleck said he had a conversation with Matt Damon who told him at this point in his life and career he should only do things that bring him joy and that is why he left it behind in the first place. So I imagine if he's back in some capacity in the role it's something he's good with.

If I remember correcty, he said in a recent interview that filming the Flash was his best experience with filming as Batman sofar.

To be fair Robert Downey Jr's past was a topic of discussion when he was ultimately cast in Iron Man; but he had been sober for years at that point in time.

And to his credit I don't believe he publicly relapsed in all his time playing Tony Stark.

Yes, it was in the past, but that's what made it forgivable. You said WB found alcoholism "unforgivable," a word implying that they could never forgive it, even years later. Which would be an irrational reaction given how successful the recovered Downey has been. So maybe that's the wrong word to use there.

No, at the time WB DID consider it unforgivable. Over the years, things change, and what was once unforgivable can become forgivable under the right circumstances.

I just don't interpret the word that way. If it can be forgiven under any circumstances, at any time, then by definition it is not unforgivable. What you mean is that they considered it untenable to work with him until or unless he cleaned up his act.

Maybe they shouldn't have spent so much to make it. $90 million is kind of r̶i̶d̶i̶c̶u̶l̶o̶u̶s unforgiveable...does a huge all star cast really sell that many extra tickets for movies like this? I doubt it.

I'd love to see the breakdown between the amount spent on the animation and the amount spent on the cast.

Oh what joy it must be to know what someone else means better than one knows one’s self.

For anyone paying enough attention to DC movies in past decade, it’s common knowledge that the people in charge at WB have changed. It’s therefore quite clear from the context of his statement that previous WB leadership considered it unforgivable while current leadership does not.

I don’t know if Noname Given is correct, but his meaning is quite clear, easy to understand, and in no way whatsoever in need of “correction” by way of condescension (“What you mean…” indeed.)

That's not what the word 'unforgivable' means.
Context is king.

Speaking of those in charge, Warner Bros / Discovery president David Zaslav has brought former president Alan Horn (responsible for shepherding the Harry Potter and Nolan Batman series, among other productions) back to the studio in a consultant capacity, or as Horn sees himself, a "consigliere". Of note, Horn is also a longtime friend of Zach Snyder and greenlit his 300.

I wonder who could have possibly predicted this?? Hmmm
