DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

I'm glad it's not going to one of the other studios, especially Paramount.

If Netflix had only bought the TV side of the company, they wouldn't be producing movies, movies and TV are separate.
The way I look at this is, Netflix had been pretty much just the streaming service and the company that producers their content, but Paramount is spread throughout the entire entertainment industry, in a lot of places WB is already. So by buying WB Paramount would have been doubling up on things they already controlled, but at least with Netflix buying it, it won't be consolidating things like music or books and comics under less companies, it will be just be Netflix controlling the stuff that WB has.
It seems to me that Netflix's acquisition of everything but the TV channels would initially be opposed by the US government, but would later be approved in exchange for Paramount's acquisition of the Warner Bros. TV channels. Furthermore, if they had only acquired the Warner Bros. TV production side, they would likely have changed the name and directly leveraged Netflix's TV and film production.

Best outcome would be for WB to remain independent. Outside of that, I don't really care. As far as CNN goes, isn't that part of the Discovery Channel package that will become a publicly traded company?

Honestly, there’s no good option in any of this.
Yeah. I hate seeing more of the entertainment industry falling into any one company's hands. I understand streaming and digital media is having a big impact on things, but it's starting to feel like more of companies are being controlled by fewer people, and that's bad for everyone.

Yee gads!
I've already seen a couple of recommendations pop up on my YouTube feed about how Netflix buying Warner Bros-Discovery, means James Gunn is out and they're bringing back Snyder to complete his Justice League trilogy.
A quick little search tells me that Netflix has quietly severed ties with Snyder after the failure/underperformance of "Army of the Dead" and "Rebel Moon".
So, clickbait headlines.

According to a Trump administration regulatory official:

• WBD is much more likely to receive the $5.8 billion termination fee than to have its Netflix deal cleared by the competition board.

• With bipartisan opposition growing, WBD CEO Zaslav is open to a higher offer from Paramount.

• Paramount will make a more aggressive bid and believes it will pass through competition boards both domestically and internationally without issue.

Yeah.... if it comes from the Trump administration I'm not buying it.

Does it really make a difference? Whichever one buys WB, it still brings Hollywood closer to a monopoly, which will hurt everyone except the executives and sharedholders.
Yes, because going to Paramount puts in the hands of some big MAGA people who are probably going to try to put a stop to anything that's hurt the big turd's fee-fees, and are probably going to turn everything else into anti-diversity, pro-Trump, hard core right wing conservative crap.
From what it says on Wikipedia it looks like Ted Sarandos is a Democrat, so there's at least a much lower chance of that shit with it going to him.
And on a side, yes I absolutely terrified of what the Ellisons are going to do to Star Trek, since it's probably one of the absolute most liberal franchises out there. Hell, the entire thing is based around diveristy, and different people working together to help each other, and there's nothing the MAGA douchebag, assholes hate more than that.

The purchase requires approval from all countries, including the US. If the US doesn't approve, the purchase is impossible. Since Trump is currently in charge, approval from the Trump-appointed regulatory body is required. Beyond that, it's already been said that Paramount will not let this go. This purchase has drawn criticism from Republican senators, as well as from Democratic senators due to the monopolization situation.

My point is that such a change in the content of the stories, as distasteful as it would be, is a minor problem compared to the damage to the entertainment industry as a whole if either bidder succeeds in buying WB, because it means less competition, fewer job opportunities for creators, higher prices for consumers, everything that's bad about monopolies in general.
