DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

James Gunn talked to io9 why there are so many other superheroes in the film:

“We’re creating a universe,” Gunn said. “So I wanted Superman to be the most powerful metahuman on Earth, but I also didn’t want him to be so strong that, like, Guy Gardner doesn’t matter. I think that it was important to set up that he has contemporaries that are also pretty darn powerful.”
“Throughout the years, there have been all sorts of different versions of Superman in his power levels,” Gunn said. “From the beginning, when he was not able to fly, he’d shoot beams from his eyes. He could punch through walls at times in the ’80s. In the ’70s, he could punch a planet in half. The times in the ’50s when he was able to make little versions of himself come out. Yes, there’s a time when he would start having superpowers that people never knew [about], like making little tiny versions of himself. Clones of himself. You could do all sorts of weird things.”
Sounds like a pretty good explanation to me.

...also, I had no idea the 50's version of Superman could make little clones of himself!

Superman has a few one off powers. In a forties story he could rearrange his face to disguise himself.

More of a putty face

Yeah, it involved superhuman control of his facial musculature to distort it into a new configuration.

There was also a story where Clark hypnotized Lois to keep her from seeing him change to Superman when they were imprisoned together. I guess they dropped that because it made things too convenient for him, although it can be taken as the precedent for Superman II's amnesia kiss.

Not to mention all the one off powers in Superman 4(rebuilding the great wall, force lightning)

The Rebuild-the-Great-Wall-of-China Vision has precedent in the George Reeves series. There was one episode where he used his super-vision to reassemble a torn-up note in a wastebasket (though that could be interpreted as symbolizing him mentally deciphering the message), and one episode where a bad guy toppled a chimney onto Clark Kent and Clark used his super-breath to reverse the film blow the chimney's bricks back into place.

Here's a screen rant article about the issue with Mini-Superman.

Yeah, that was explicitly a one-time power caused by exposure to an alien element, like the various red kryptonite powers Superman was often given in the Silver Age, so it really shouldn't be counted along with the eccentric powers that were presented as intrinsic and then dropped, like the face-changing or telepathy or giant-cellophane-S-shield throwing.
