DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Yeah. That, I guess, is the narrative justification for the story being cluttered with all these other DC heroes. Maybe it works, we actually don’t have all that long to wait at this point before we find out.

After COIE, Superman wasn't the first hero either and it worked out fine. I would particularly like a narrative where the other heroes might have become a little cynical in their roles and this movie is about Superman winning over their loyalty and showing them how to be heroes that average people look up to.

What a treat. The most heartwarming part of the Superman trailer back in December got an extended look Tuesday night at CinemaCon, that being the Man of Steel and his dog Krypto.

In the footage for audiences at CinemaCon, Superman dropped to Earth bloodied near the Fortress of Solitude. He whistles for Krypto, who jumps on his wounded master. He drags Superman into the fortress where they’re greeted by robots who fix him up. Much of the same imagery from the December trailer played. Back in the fortress, the Man of Steel scolds Krypto for wrecking the joint while he was gone. The robots, who were suppose to look after him, could care less.

"The footage starts similarly to the first trailer, with Superman crashing into the arctic, injured and whistling to summon Krypto, who arrives in a big snowy flurry. Krypto playfully jumps on Superman as he grunts in pain. “Take me home” he commands, holding out his cape. Krypto comedically drags Superman around the tundra as a crystal structure grows in the distance and creates two doors that glow with Superman’s logo — it’s the fortress of solitude.

Automatons greet Superman and pick him up to place him in a healing chamber powered by the sun. He tries to thank the automatons but they stress they do not have sentience. The clip transitions into the main Superman trailer, but ends with Superman leaving the fortress of solitude, almost leaving Krypto behind before his pet whimpers. He allows Krypto to tag along as he playfully charges and bites at Superman’s shoes as the clip ends."

By all accounts, the clip was well-received, and Krypto's antics got quite a few laughs.

Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther), who stepped on stage with David Corenswet (Superman) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), had a pinch-himself moment. He watched as Corenswet flew onto the set on wires, in what was a Hollywood magic moment. Here’s the actor who is supposed to play the bad guy, “but I’ve got this grin on my face. I turn around and everyone behind me has the same expression on their face,” he said tonight.

The same footage will also be shown before A Minecraft Movie in theaters. I'm hoping it'll also show up online officially at some point, I want to see it, but I have no interest in A Minecraft Movie.

Even if it shows up online, I’ve decided I’m going to skip it. I’d love to see another trailer, but ten minutes of the movie in isolation is too much for me. I can wait till July 11 to see it in its proper context with the rest of the story.

I love that Krypto just acts like a regular dog.

That and that the robots were given personality, it makes more sense given the one promo picture where Superman is apparently sad over a crippled/destroyed robot.

This trailer just fuels the hype for me, still hate the red trunks though and that won't change.

Yeah, James Gunn is definitely a dog person. I'm a little disappointed we didn't get the full version they got at CinemaCon. Apparently after he recovers there's then a scene with Clark chewing Krypto out over how much he's destroyed the Fortress while he was gone.

I figure they want to keep actual character interactions of Superman to a minimum for now, i.e. no dialogue and other actions. They want to keep that for either the next big trailer or even the movie itself but July is approaching fast and we'll find out soon.

It's weird my best friend and I have opposite reaction to what's coming out for the Superman and Fantastic Four Films. He pretty much hates everything he see for Superman. The tone just isn't "serious" enough for him. To be fair he hate the Snyder take too. Krypto is a real sticking point for him. Somewhere people are calling Gunn's take "campy" and he's taken that up. Though I haven't seen any thing campy, myself. It's mostly playing it straight.

OTOH, he's thrilled by the FF trailer. Loves the retro-futurism. (I like it too). But it seems a bit "light" to me. I get the "bright, big beautiful tomorrow" angle, but it's not quite the FF I "know". There's an edge that seems to be missing. Though I assume we'll get that in later trailers.

I debated shortly with myself, but ultimately watched the "Sneak Peek" that went online and is embedded above. It is pretty much spoiler-free, as it shows only the full version of Krypto dragging Superman to the Fortress as seen in the teaser, as well as the Fortress robots attending to his injuries, then it goes into an extended version of the rest of the teaser trailer.
