DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Thought this was a little interesting: On Threads, Gunn was asked which characters in his entire career have been the most difficult to cast, and he listed among them Superman's Mr. Terrific and Eve Teschmacher.

We have our Ruthye!

‘Supergirl’ Finds Her Ruthye Marye Knoll In ‘3 Body Problem’s Eve Ridley

Not familiar with Ridley's work, but I do like that she's a decade or so younger than Milly Alcock. I was worried they would go the frequent Hollywood route of casting a 20-year-old (or older) to play an adolescent, but I think it's important we feel the difference in age and experience between Kara and Ruthye.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is coming together. :techman:

More realistically - but not one I’d have seen coming either - Daniel Craig may be in a Sgt Rock adaptation for the director of his new movie Queer

I'm old enough to remember when Arnie was cast as Sgt. Rock, which never made any sense. But then Craig doesn't seem much better. Maybe twenty years ago.

I remember Arnie - who would’ve sounded like he was on the other side surely - and then Bruce Willis being in the running. Not sure anyone was ever cast, as such. Yes, it does seem odd that Craig would want to go back to another physical franchise role at this stage. I’m not really familiar with the character but IIRC, most soldiers in World War II were actually pretty young.

I've heard the character, but don't know much about him. Is he more than just a generic WWII soldier? Just curious what the draw would be to the movie beyond just being another WWII movie.

Yes and no. The stories set during WWII were straight-up war stories but there were later stories set in the (then) present-day in which he interacted with superheroes.

His creator (and author of most of those original stories) Robert Kanigher did not like this and made it clear that as far as he was concerned Rock died at the end of the war.

Easy Company hardly ever interacted with Supers characters, but the were in the same world. There's no reason some of the Golden Age characters couldn't also be in the movie. There's also the Unknown Soldier and the crew of the Haunted Tank as possible other characters.

The were some supernatural stories such as a highly acclaimed dual appearance of a character called the dummy about a puppeteer and his puppet or the Easy Company encountering ghosts.

When it comes to Sg.t Rock he's never felt like a particularly young character to me, I'd personally see more of a grizzled actor at the tail end of middle age playing him, but Craig could work.

Most of the crossover stories that were published in Kanigher's lifetime took place in the pages of the Brave and the Bold. A book that took place in its own "special continuity. " ;)

Rock was probably under 40 during the war. His dad was WWI.

So there are few different conflicting bits about Rock's back story but he's most certainly not over 40 given what was presented in the comics.

Now I could see a version on film where you have an actor who is 40-45 but 60? (which Craig would be by the time this got scheduled) - no.
