DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Gunn didn't write or direct Supergirl, which the trailer makes pretty clear.

But he's the guy in charge and sets the tone. I may hate the specific comic this movie is based on, but I know Supergirl isn't a drunken party girl in it, thats all on the people making the movie. The music stuff is 100% inspired by Gunn's work and approved of by him even if he's not directly responsible for it, although maybe the actual movie doesn't have a specific Gunn style needle drop even if the trailer makes it seem likely.

Also, since he had Supergirl in his movie first Gunn is almost certainly responsible for her personality, especially since he's running the DC stuff in general. Without Gunn, I don't think we're getting such a terrible version of Supergirl. I'm sure the writer/director of the movie are all on board with that version of Supergirl, but it almost certainly had to have come from Gunn first, and if nothing else he definitely approved of it.

Zack Snyder didn't write or direct 'Wonder Woman' yet his fingerprints are all over the finished product.
Did you like that movie?

This is definitely not Helen Slater or Melissa Benoit’s Supergirl but since we already have those, why not something different? I’m not overly familiar with the comic character but this looks entertaining and that works for me.

As I mentioned above, I have not read the comic this movie is (from what I heard) based on. So if this take on Supergirl is like the one in that comic, she would most certainly be comic accurate. And that's a problem a lot of people have. We have had many different takes and variations of characters through out the years. Some pick one they like best and will than say 'this is what this character is like, other versions are not correct'.
Doesn't work like that.

Now, if someone who has read the specific comic this movie is based on, and says the character is nothing like what we saw in the trailer.....
Meh, I'm still game.

That looks awful. I didn't think that being better then the 80s film would be that high a bar, but after watching that reheated GotG wanna be junk I'm begging for a witch or an omegahedron. The "needle drop" in Superman was the absolute worst part of that movie, and this trailer is making Supergirl look like its that moment as a whole film, and with a terrible lead character. Making Supergirl an unlikable prick is a "choice", personally I'm not going to support a movie with a drunk party girl version of Supergirl. Also, Krypto going from "lovable jerk" dog to pissing on screen is really classy.

This is the only time I'll ever say this in regards to a DC property: The DCEU did Supergirl better, and its not even close. Considering the fact that Supergirl only gets like 20 minutes of screen time in The Flash its an even more dire comparison. I might give this a hate watch when its available at home, but thats it.

At this point I'm pretty solidly in the camp of Gunn not being suited for the job he's been given. More mediocrity and outright trash then hits, although admittedly his stuff is still better then the DCEU 99% of the time (which is to be expected, he'd have to actively try to make bad movies to get down to the DCEU's level in general).

Really? Someone on Facebook told me recently that Snyder vocally expressed a lack of interest in Wonder Woman while it was being made, calling WW a boring character, and that he basically stayed away from it. Although it's true that he's credited as co-writer of the film's story, and I do give him credit for casting Gal Gadot. Really, though I'm not a fan of most of Snyder's creative decisions, his casting choices were generally quite good.

My impression thus far has been different, but if someone on Facebook told you that, I guess it must be true. Really, nobody knows better than someone on Facebook.

I have the making of book for Wonder Woman and I read it a while ago, but I can't remember what it says about Snyder's involvement in the movie.
There’s the barest glimpse of Lobo in here. The less, the better.
Where was he, I was watching for him and never saw him.
I thought the trailer was great, and it's really got me psyched for the movie.
This really is the kind of tone and approach I love in movies, so I'm all for it.
I understand this is a very different version of Supergirl, but I've gotten the impression that she has changed pretty drastically from one version to the next, and hasn't had the same kind of consistent characterization that her cousin and that guy from Gotham have. And really in context this kind of approach makes sense for the character.

Look for the glow of a cigar.

Obviously that is not what I intended to imply. The fact that I asked "Really?" should have clued you in that I was asking for clarification as to which interpretation was more accurate. (Although I suppose in a text medium it's hard to tell that I was asking sincerely rather than with a snide tone. But that's all the more reason we should give each other the benefit of the doubt.)

Quote from Patty Jenkins from Empire Magazine April 2017

“Zack was making Batman V Superman simultaneous to making this, but he was very instrumental in the direction the film was going to take,” Jenkins said.

“That ended up leading to my signing on, because I know enough about these worlds now that unless we really have a shared vision, it’s going to be two years of fighting, and who wants that? I had a very strong feeling of what kind of Wonder Woman film I’d want to make.”

I just watched it. I was worried they were not actually going to show the suit, but then they did and I thought it looked fun. Also, this is only a teaser. I'm sure the trailer will be a little more on the serious side.
