Daylight Savings this weekend, Where Applicible

We always seem to have a thread about this when it comes up, so I figure now is a good time to remind those where it applies that this weekend we set the clocks forward 1 hour. I hate the whole Idea of setting clocks forward and back (It seems so archaic now) but realize it's a necessary evil. I just love the fact that we get more daylight though, which is always a great thing. It also means Spring is not so far behind, meaning better weather.

While I don't mind more light during the day, I rather wish it wasn't happening this weekend, when I'm working two 12-hour shifts (not during the clock-change, though... that'll happen probably when I'll be going to bed. Grrrr...)

Yup. I'm going to finally be able to withdraw some money from my Daylight Savings account.

Not to sound like a smart ass, but it's actually Daylight Saving Time.

I'm bummed only because we get up between 5:00 and 5:30 every morning with our dogs, and it was just getting to the point where it was actually getting light when we were on the return leg of our morning walks. Starting Monday, we'll be back to walking in the pitch dark again. :(

I got reminded when I was watching the news this morning. Having more light in the evening works for me.

New Zealand changed it's daylight saving schedule three years ago to give ourselves more "summer" time, so we actually change our at Easter. Otherwise it would've been this weekend.

One thing I love about Arizona, none of that daylight savings crap. The time is the same time all the time, 365! :p

I really do think that if DST is going to be a thing, it should be a mandatory global thing. Otherwise it's just bound to get confusing.

Bah, who needs light? I want more darkness.

:) Do you celebrate Holi? I was reading the paper recently and saw quite a few Bay Area natives who were all getting colorful with their Holi powder. Looks like a visual feast.

I haven't in awhile, as there isn't a huge Indian population around here and to be honest, I've gotten worse about cultural events as I've gotten older. But yes, it's a blast to participate in! You should try it sometime.

I hate losing that hour of sleet.

Big fan or winter weather, are ya?

Back in the day, when I worked the graveyard shift, we always loved this particular night of the year because we got paid for 8 hours while only working 7. Unfortunately, in the fall we got paid for 8 while working 9. :borg:

When told the reason for daylight savings time, the Old Indian said, "Only the white man would think that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket."

- Sean, resident of a "no-daylight savings time State, except for (ironically) the one Indian Reservation up in the northeast corner of the State".
