Day of the Doctor (novelization) and the Cushing Movies (spoilers)

though that could be an editorial mandate, I have a vague memory of reading something like that).
IIRC, it was an editorial mandate back in the 90s in the days of the New Adventures. It's been lifted today, but most authors continue to adhere to it anyway, mostly by reflex.
I'm certainly hoping that the 4 new series novelisations they've done were successful enough to justify more.
I seem to recall that the main purpose behind these was to keep a Doctor Who novel presence during the "gap months" until Whitaker's season starts and they can start pumping out Thirteenth Doctor material. Also, allegedly Chibnall wants tie-in novels for the incumbent Doctor to be more of a thing than they were during Moffat's run, so I'd say for 2019 we're more likely to see Whitaker tie-ins than novelizations of RTD and Moffat era episodes.

I think it’s possible they will try for more. It’s easy money, and if we are heading to another hiatus, then it keeps the fan money’s flowing in even if Chibnall Who cops it.

I seriously hope this will be the last-ever hiatus. I don't get the point of these - suspence? For what?

At least RTD gave the fans a season-ish made out of specials, spread throughout the year. Moffat's was the worst. And this one is nigh nonsensical. Stop them!

Sixteen years. That’s a hiatus.

Just a side note: Both Peter Cushing Dr. Who movies are on the Film Struck streaming service. It's affiliated with TCM. It also lets you browse their catalog without signing up. I'm a film lover in general and love it.

I'm not sure where the River Song scene is supposed to go in her timeline. It must come right before "The Husbands of River Song," since she says a company wants to hire her to crack open a library.

I gave it some thought, and I think it probably goes right where it seems to, immediately before "Silence in the Library." It'd explain why River went from suspecting she'd never see the Doctor again after the Singing Towers to calling him like it's no big thing at the Library, and we can stretch the qualifier "The last time I saw the real you, the future you" fairly widely to include off-screen encounters with Ten and a young-and-suspicious Eleven, before they got together, since she's talked before about how tough it can be meeting earlier Doctors as she became closer to him and having all that history wiped away for the duration. Seeing a Doctor again would've allayed her fears, or made her suspect that it was his last time, not hers. Plus, I got the impression from the Doctor's decision in that chapter that he could simply never see River again, and she wouldn't die (at the Library) that that was the moment that "retconned" the Tenth Doctor out of the Crash of the Byzantium and the Picnic at Asgard and moved those meetings into his next incarnation.

That was another thing I liked, the way Moffat incorporated his view that time is flexible (which I think has been made most explicit in the DVD short where Amy asks about remembering two versions of her life, and the Doctor explains that the memory doesn't play tricks on you so much as reality is constantly reforming around us). The River continuity patch is more implicit than the bit about who laughed first at the Eleventh Doctor getting dunked on, but it all fits in with in with a looser, more flexible, more magical approach to things.

So just finished listening to the audio version of this. Confused by the last chapter.
Cass comes back. But the Doctor says she could never save her. So it's not really Cass? It's The moment? Also at the end of the audio is a voice saying "help me....help me..." is that the 11th Doctor on Trenzalore?

The last chapter is the Thirteenth Doctor meeting Cass earlier in her life (when she first gets the bandolier the War Doctor later takes, long before she meets the Eighth Doctor). The last page is a gag about Chapter 9. You see, Chapter 9 has been memory-proofed, just like the Silent creatures were. Right after where it supposedly went in the book, the narrator insists to you that it was in the book, and you did read it, you just can't remember, and to prove it, they'll include a blank page in the back of the book where you can make a tally mark to prove to yourself that you read it after you forget reading it. The back page of the book has... well over a thousand tally marks, with the words "HELP ME" scrawled over them. That voice is a recording of you, facing the existential horror of having your memory repeatedly erased no matter how hard you try to retain Chapter 9.

Thanks for clearing that up. Might be better to read a physical copy of the book as the audio reads it as something like 1110111011101110 etc
