Dax and Spock, and also best line ever.

So I'm up to season 7 during my current rewatch of the series, and I want to know if anyone agrees with me about this. Dax acquires a sort of Spock-style mystique when she dies and comes back to life. I mean, it's kind of the same concept, too. Just like McCoy held on to Spock's soul (memories, in a sense), Dax's memories were passed to a new host. Sisko was lost without his friend and mentor Dax, and Kirk needed his friend and occasional mentor Spock. Both pairs had a backstory which predated their respective series'. Both pairs were a Captain and science officer.

On a pretty much totally different topic, best line ever:

"I wish he'd get there!"

Who concurs?

similar concepts yes, but Spock was reborn in the same body not transferred to a different one, and wasn't sharing that body with other identities.

Thanks, Sonak. Yeah, I know it's not exactly the same, but it evokes the same feeling, almost, doesn't it? It gives Dax the same mystique...

Funny you'd make that connection, 'cuz I remember reading somewhere that Dax kind of WAS supposed to be a wise sage-like character, similar to Spock, sicne she had three hundrd plus years of wisdom from which to pull from. I can't say I'm much of a Dax fan (albeit out of process of elimination--she just didn't grab me like the rest of the cast did), but I'm glad that she had a bit of vitality and youth along with her wisdom.

And in retrospect, I wished she was able to call on the wisdom of her other hosts other than Curzon every once in a while. I realize he was the Dax Sisko knew best and the most recent, but still.

I've always had this vague fannish idea that it'd be really fun to have Dax (Jadzia or Ezri, either one) meet up with a certain Time Lord and gallivant around for a couple hundred years and change hosts/regenerate once or twice.

Interesting, Kestrel. I never really got into Doctor Who, but did you know IDW's doing a TNG/Doctor Who crossover comic? I've only got the first issue, and it's tough to see what kind of plot they'll come up with. They just finished a Star Trek/Legion of Super Heroes crossover. Think they'll see fit to cross DS9 over with something next?

I too thought of the Doctor Who analogy. It works really well too since the personalities change slightly, but still retain the bulk of the personality of the previous hosts.

Imagine Curzon with Hartnell or Pertwee, Jadzia with Tom Baker, Ezri with Davison...
