David Mack is GUSHING about it...this should settle it

Does the fact that literally every new series has been met with the exact same accusations this one has not register with anyone?

Today we gleefully reproduce articles where Trekkies attacked TNG and laugh at their short-sightedness.

No we don't. I love that show but I admit that some franchise fans dislike and even deride it, many using the same complaints and dislikes they had from early on or the beginning. Likewise with DS9. TWoK seems like nearly the only film or series that had a lot of hesitancy among the fans going in and was able to win over nearly all of them.

and a 'where is it' flag ship is a heavy going start.

Do you mean the NCC-1701? Because there's nothing in canon to suggest that it was the flagship, particularly during this era. In fact, one of the ships we do see, the Europa, is a far better candiate for (the local) flagship.

I rather wanted star ship Discovery to feature. I've been reading everyone's comments and am wondering did I miss it?

Wouldn't it be the flagship if an Admiral is in command, and as far as we know was the only ship-commanding Admiral during the battle?

More accurately, if an Admiral is aboard. Admirals rarely command ships, when they are aboard the ship, the ship is just their base of operations as they handle their greater responsibilities, in this case command of the fleet we saw in the episode. The Admiral would actually have very little authority over internal operations of the Europa, that would be the responsibility of the ship's captain and crew.

I had no issue watching him get it, too bad the Europa had to go as well. More of Klingons mumbling about honor and then doing the least honorable thing possible. Offering a truce and then sneak attacking under a cloak.

T'Whothehellcares should have beamed aboard and stabbed him or something. Made the death honorable.

I wonder when we get the inevitable "The Return of Starbuck" adaptation? With Michael Burnham and a Klingon stuck on a planet together trying to get rescued and learn to live together and respect each other.

An entire episode of Tamarians conversing in phrases like "Darmok and Jilad at Tenagra" "Hoo-Sani and his army at Lakshmir" "Shaka, when the walls fell." and so on would be less excruciating than Discovery's Klingon scenes have been.
Better yet, the Tamarians singing Shaka Khan!

Just asking but...people seem to be referring to the Klingon scenes not having subtitles...they were subtitles on Netflix. Also they had romanised Klingon subtitles for the whole episode, so someone had some time on their hands.

The ponderous Klingon sequences had me headed toward "Zinda, his face black, his eyes red", but the rest of the episode led me to my position now of "Mirab, with sails unfurled".

I was in before Mack said a word. But who's to argue with one of the best Trek authors publishing these days?

I hope David Mack does a better job of selling me on the characters in Desperate Hours than Discovery did with the pilot. My copy showed up today.
