David Mack is GUSHING about it...this should settle it

The show has Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd.
The use of both the actor and the character connotes to me that the show could include fun aspects.

It would if he didn't characterize Mudd as "dangerous". They're turning him from a buffoonish rogue into more of a flat out villain with no objection to kill.

He may have been buffoonish in "I, Mudd" but I didn't find him very buffoonish at all in "Mudd's Women".
So we know he can have a dark and dangerous side, even if he can seem like a (mostly) harmless buffoon at other times.

I do notice that Mack may be starting to go after other dissenting opinions about DSC, based on his tweets from this past weekend. I understand that there are folks online who don't like Star Trek or like only certain series, and they're perfectly entitled to their opinions if they like what's been coming out so far about DSC.

I understand his multi-tweet statement about DSC, and how he feels about it. But if he's now going to be this one man campaign to slam anyone who dares write negatively about DSC, then he's looking foolish and will only serve to turn people off from it that otherwise would have watched.

If you think about it though, how does he look any more foolish than the people who have been spreading hate and discontent like vomit all over social media about the show? Because he's trying to be positive as opposed to negative...while everyone else being a vile a-hole is just "expressing their opinions that they're perfectly entitled to?" I think the other side of the coin on this one has been FAR more embarrassing and foolish.

It's a bit of a double standard that people/fans/critics can absolutely TRASH and slander a new production, and that's ok...but anyone who tries to stand up and defend it or be positive about it is just "trying to censor people with legit opinions." Nah, man...that doesn't fly.

I actually don't think anyone who is already looking forward to watching the show is now going to be "turned off" by his comments. I do think, however, that people will get turned off by the overwhelming negativity that exists in other online forums (not this one...this one is very tame and professional for the most part).

This is where I just shake my head. It's mostly social media going to town on this show, with YouTube probably the worst. But I won't pretend it's not happening here.

Special mushrooms that makes you travel through space and achieve world peace? We had them in the 1970's!

The toxicity towards Into Darkness kept me away from it on another board. Something I deeply regret.
Seriously, another Space Hippies episode à la "The Way to Eden" is long overdue in Star Trek.

OK, maybe not so seriously... :nyah:
That episode had so much potential...then the music started.

Mushrooms! The very thought! We all know that crystals are the only substances that can plausibly interact with other dimensions so as to be used for space travel. Anything else would be laughable. Hech. Hock.

Well, you all know what laughter sounds like.
Voyager had an episode where the USS Equinox used alien corpses to superpower it's warp drive.

They also had an episode where a highly advanced Quantum Slipstream superwarp drive was made up of a store-bought plasma ball and four lava lamps. But that's another issue for another time.

Exactly. Discovery's space mushrooms sounds just as improbable/ludicrous as the aforementioned examples. Let's hope the execution is a lot better than VOY.
