David Mack announces new Trek work on "Facebook"

^ Just to mess with us, the whole trilogy will be centered around rescuing a puppy, or something.

^ At last, I have book one's title! Out, Out, Damned Spot! Someone lets the cat go on an away mission, and all heck springs loose! Hijinks ensue! By Jove, I think you folks have finally helped me crack the story on this nut! :)

Some planets might have to secede from the UFP just to save their newly refurbished parklands from renewed desecration.

Oh.

Worf: Here kitty kitty kitty! Here kitty! Where are you Spot?
Spot: Meow!

Worf tries to make a grab for Spot as Spot runs between Worf's legs. Worf misses Spot and lands on his butt. Picard looks at Worf and a belly laugh ensues.

In the eBook version, the cat is known as Sp

ot

and Worf trips over a row of asterisks signifying a stray chapter break.

This would be so funny if it wasn't so true! That's why I quit buying anything from S&S in ebook form now. They do a terrible job of proofreading and formatting. It would be acceptable to some degree if it was occasional and the ebook was only $2.99 but I'm not paying full price for their lack of quality control!

They gave Mack another trilogy?

Are they mad! Last time he wiped out 60+ Billion people....what the hell's he going to do this time?

;)

That was just a bit of the Beta Quadrant.

He still has the rest of the Galaxy to deal with.

To engage in a bit of unfetterred speculation, I wonder if Ro Laren will play a role in this TNG-oriented trilogy. She is now Captain of DS9 (revealed in a book penned by Mack), which is a big change obviously, that for the moment appears to be a bit random, but, given the character's history with Picard, I could see that coming into play in these books.

To further speculate, the above makes me wonder if this trilogy might have something to do with the Dominion. To me, the pending situation with the Dominion in the gamma quadrant is the most obvious hanging plot thread that would merit a trilogy to resolve, sort of like the Borg was prior to Destiny. Also, I could see why having the Enterprise and her crew deal with the Dominion for a change might be an appealing idea (at least for some).

That also might explain why all the DS9 regulars except Quark are now off the station, as that would allow actual DS9 novels to continue their stories elsewhere, perhaps in a way that involves Cardassia, as suggested earlier.

On the subject of future DS9 novels penned by DRGIII, I won't lie: I'm not super excited about the prospect given the poorly thought-out and misguided mess that was the Sisko portion of RBoE (imo, of course). However, I will hope for the best. In any event, I do appreciate DRGIII's elegant prose style.

I'm gonna be honest and say that after the real-life disaster in Japan, the idea of another of David Mack's destruction/high body count specials isn't very appealing right now.

^I'll just point that just because Dave is known for that kind of tale, that doesn't mean it's the only thing he's capable of.

Certainly not!

One very memorable scene from SCE comes to mind featuring the one, the only, Vance Hawkins, super-spy!

I still crack up thinking about that.

Plus, even if the trilogy is going to be of that particular genre, it likely won't be out for a year and a half at minimum, at which point the Japan disaster will be pretty far in the past.

But for varieties sake, I hope he goes down another road.
