David Goyer Teases the Next Batman Film!

Iron Man made 300 million bucks at the box office and I doubt most of the people who went to see that film had any idea who Pepper Potts or The Iron Monger were.

Ra's wasn't well known, but Batman Begins was about Batman, not the villain. Once you establish Batman in your franchise, then the draw is most likely going to be the villain.

This is absolutely correct. Remember the end of Begins, when Batman flipped over the card the the Joker was revealed? The audience went nuts, a reaction that was echoed in theaters all across the country. People weren't saying "Holy shit there's going to be another Batman movie!" They were saying "Holy shit it's THE JOKER!" And this was long before Heath Ledger was cast. It's the villain, baby.

Name recognition and expectations are everything. Batman-and-Joker bring immediate expectations. Batman-and-Catwoman bring immediate expectations. Batman-and-Talia bring "Who the hell is that?"

And then we hear all these JOLIE rumors shopping for a catsuit...But I don't see Catwoman as a threat. CLAYFACE would be an interesting villain and he does have an interesting past (but maybe too much like Spidey's Sandman)

Maybe they could say Joker is dead and that HarlyQuin, a nut herself, comes to get revenge...

Catwoman isn't really much of a main villain. She's a side villain, or troublesome ally/foil at her best.

or Iron Man for that matter. You wouldn't believe the amount of posts I read that usually started out like this

"I know nothing about Iron man but it looks cool"

"I've read one comic about Iron Man etc"

Catwoman is an annoyance to Bruce at most who has the potential to become a serious threat. I think he recognizes how dangerous she can be and that is the reason he's always cautious around her. Again, remember what Ra's al Ghul taught us all about perception and deception? Catwoman is a highly recognizable name no doubt about that...and I agree that the films have been about Batman and his war on crime. The rouges gallery are apart of that war though...not just comic book fans are familar with them either, although I will agree that not all of them are well known as maybe Joker, Two-Face, Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, etc. I love Long Halloween and Dark Victory so much because they play up the antagonistic roles Batman and Catwoman have towards each other very well as well as explore that romantic interest as well.

I think it's a given that any of the remaining villains will be re-imagined in a more realistic way, so a villain being too 'out there' means nothing.
Exactly. Look what they did with Ra's Al Ghul.

"And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman."
Paul Giamatti?

Agreed. Or else Toby Jones, who played the other Truman Capote in recent years.

I'm taking the Depp as the Riddler with a huge pinch of salt for now, but there's no doubt that he could do a brilliant job in the role. He could quite easily do a Gorshin/ Carrey type scenery-chewing version or he could just as easily pull off something totally different and entirely unpredictable.

That said, I still want to see David Hyde Pierce as a smug, creepy and hyper-intelligent version of the Riddler.

I think the first thing the writing staff is going to have work on is the joker situation. But with possible other villians i can see like

The Riddler - jonny depp or Jim Carrey to reprise

Penguin - phillip seymour hoffman or Danny Devito to reprise

Mr Freeze - Patrick Stewart

Catwoman- Angelina Jolie

Only if his brother Frasier Nygma shows up

Carrey again as the Riddler no. He already stole too much scenery in "Forever" and pissed off Tommy Lee Jones in the process

Here would be my idealized cast for Batman 3...

-Batman/Bruce Wayne: Christian Bale
-Alfred Pennyworth: Michael Caine
-Commishiner James Gordon: Gary Oldman
-Lucious Fox: Morgan Freeman
-Detective Renee Montoya: Eva Mendes or Jennifer Esposito
-Selina Kyle/Catwoman: Monica Baccrin
-Peguin: Philip Seymour Hoffman or Bob Hoskins
-Talia al Ghul: Kate Beckinsale
-Ra's al Ghul (Flashback sequences): Liam Neeson

Only if his brother Frasier Nygma shows up

Niles Nygma: There you are! [Batman looks up] Yes, I'm talking to you, strudel boy! No one seduces my wife and gets away with it! You probably thought because of my refined bearing and swimmer's build that I wouldn't put up a fight for the woman I love. But you're dead wrong, because real men have a thing called "honor!" [Batman stands up and is significantly taller than Niles] Yow! You wouldn't know about that, would you?
Frasier Nygma: Niles...
Niles Nygma: You wouldn't know how decent people behave.
Frasier Nygma: Niles...
Niles Nygma: You wouldn't know the meaning of the word "rectitude!"
Frasier Nygma: Niles, he wouldn't know the meaning of the word "dog," "cat," or "pencil!" He doesn't speak English, remember?! [Batman growls in his gravely voice]

What Joker situation? His story is over. Reference him or show him in the shadows at Arkham Aslyum, but anything more is unnecessary.

Robin Williams for The Riddler!
Preach it!

-Detective Renee Montoya: Jennifer Esposito
This must happen!

:guffaw:

...glad I'm getting people on the Talia band wagon!!

Unfortunately Talia is not a box office draw. The general moviegoer has no idea who she is. With Catwoman though you've got instant name recognition and a greater potential for $$$.

That is true. I've read around the net there are reports that Angelina Jolie is interested in it.
Oh, THAT'S the way to go... yeah...

And while they're at it, they could Make Uma Thurman Poison Ivy... that'll make for a GREAT movie.

How about Arnold Schwartzenegger as Mr. Freeze? Or Jim Carrey as the Riddler?

YEAH... big name "stunt casting" and "star power" sure does make for great entertainment!

(Oh, and the guy playing Dent in this last movie... the fact that he's an virtual unknown clearly explains the HORRIBLE box-office this movie is doing.)

Ummm... who is "Monica Baccrin?"

Could you possible mean "Morena Baccarin?"
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1072555/

I like Morena Baccarin as much as the next guy but seriously...acting along with Oscar caliber actors? Nope. Maggie Gyllenhaal could barely handle the screen with Bale, Ledger and Eckhart. For Catwoman, you need someone like Jolie, Rachel Weisz, Kate Beckinsale, Emily Mortimer or Cate Blanchett.

You shouldn't blame Gyllenhaal (or Holmes for that matter) for having the thinnest amount of material to work with. Rachel Dawes wasn't written even half as meaty as any of the other parts.
