After fifteen years out of circulation I've dipped my toe into the online dating scene. When I was last dating it was all phone-based services and the Internet was still dial-up and BBSes with the web in its infancy so this dating online is kind of new for me.
I'm registered with a few sites: J-Date, Geek2Geek and match.com
J-Date has a pretty active chat room which is fun, though Glasgow has a smallish Jewish population and the room is dominated by women from New York and New Jersey and I'm uncertain of the whole long-distance thing being workable, though I am open to it.
match.com has a lot of ladies in my area which is good, but I haven't pursued that too aggressively because randomly sending out messages just feels a bit weird. I'd rather be able to chat in a "safe" environment like a multi-user chat room so I do hope they'll add something like that and I wrote to suggest it.
Geek2Geek is pretty much a waste of time as is Plenty of Fish from what I can see, though at least the latter is free. Message boards and chat on the former, but nobody home.
I've had some chat, but no actual dates so I'm taking the unusual step of a holiday in New York to address that, but again, LDR feels fraught.
I'm technically separated (divorce should hopefully come through in a couple of months) and I know that's a red line for a lot of women, so that probably explains my lack of luck thus far. I'm curious to know if anyone else on the board was active in any online dating sites and had stories to tell or sites to recommend.
