This what Trek fans DO. We talk the minutiae. We do it decades after a show is gone off the air. If you want to go round critiquing whether threads and opinions are valid we'd have no fucking board.

I mean you entered a topic called "Data's rank in All Good Things" what were you expecting here? That it was slang and OP was saying Data was foul smelling? "Hmm I wonder how the viewers smelt Data from a TV screen, I must investigate this new and exciting development in the Star Trek universe."

Hey, I love a nitpick as much as the next fan, and I'm interested in the convoluted rationales fans can come up with.

But calling it "inexcusable and dumb" is just nuts, especially when this amazing episode is full of little inconsistencies and continuity errors we could sit here unpicking. As you say, it's part of the fun but there's no need to insult the production team for missing a tiny detail. That's all I took issue with.

But I'll bow out of this now! Sorry for upsetting you, I accept my tone was snarky. I shall try to do better.

Your intentions were good... but don't take people so literally particularly on such a small thing. People aren't calling for them to be arrested. It's more a case of just "I can't believe you didn't notice!" It's shock more than anything.

Data is explicitly referred to as commander in the past so definitely one of many costume errors across the franchise.

You'd also think someone on set would have told Dr Marr she was holding the tricorder back to front.

Honestly, I noticed the error during the episode and haven't thought about it again until this thread.

Oddly placed or missing combadges are another one where I'm like who didnt notice this when I see it. And about 5 seconds after the episode I've forgotten all about it.

I really wish he just did have full Lieutenant pips and so it had been conveyed that he did get promoted just before the series began, unfortunately with what was done he couldn't have gotten two promotions at once, it was just an error.

In addition to only having Lieutenant Junior Grade pips Data was not in the senior officers meeting in the briefing room and Picard said Tasha you have the bridge when Data was also on the bridge

Data might have been a LCDR, but he was rarely placed in command. Perhaps Picard remembered Datas limitations and chose Yar to command the ship
