More 1st season inconsistent writing?

I don't think it was that bad of an ep. It actually laid the foundation from some pretty good eps to come. It's biggest problem was the fact that the writers still hadn't nailed Data or his relationships with the rest of the crew yet. It got much better by the beginning of season two and became very solid by Measure Of A Man.

Yep. that was the whole point of "Heart of Glory."
My problem with "Datalore" is that the crew is just so blindingly stupid. I understand this is TV and that sometimes a character has to not come to the quick answer for the sake of drama. But, c'mon, for Lore to have gotten as far as he did without anyone realizing what was going on was just inexcusable.
My "inconsistent writing" comment was directed more at the OP's point of early season(s) character interaction than at the episode itself.

I guess so, but I don't feel that the crew was so obviously suspicious.
Hey, he may not know about brains, but he can tell when the naive android has been replaced by an evil one.
This is why it's such a bad episode - there's just no reason these people should be written so incompetently.

It's first season TNG. That's explanation enough.
Then again, Klingons had been a well known race for centuries by the time TNG came along. Data, on the other hand, was unique, at least before Lore showed up.
Nobody *could* know how Data would react if he met another of his own kind, simply because there was nothing to compare him with. Worf, on the other hand, was a different story, simply because the crew knew how Klingons generally acted (Klingons had been interacting with the Federation for many, many years, giving the Federation an idea of how to treat them - and how the Federation could expect to be treated BY them) and thus Worf's actions towards fellow Klingons would be more easily predictable.
