Data Dates a Vulcan

Qew

Pre-emotion chip, that would be an interesting relationship don't you think?

I doubt it would have worked. Vulcans have very intense internal lives which are an integral part of their intimate relationships through their use of "touch telepathy". Thus Data would have had trouble achieving a meaningful bond with a Vulcan mate. In fact I think he would have been puzzled out of his wits much more so than with a human counterpart because Vulcans are so much less likely to discuss what's going on inside them.

Wow, Data and a Vulcan. That'd be an interesting combination! I can't see sparks flying in this kind of pairing, but I bet they'd have great conversations.

I know the question sounds childish but does Data have an ummm "gun" down there?

Hus Vulcan wife could easily get bored.

According to the episode "The Naked Now", Data is "fully functional". Tasha Yar found out for herself.

if Data were to have a relationship with a Vulcan I think it would be more like a mutually beneficial living arrangement, than an actual relationship :vulcan:

They're betrothed as children, assuming Spock's experience is typical. A tradition like that makes dating moot.

According to apocrypha, Amanda wasn't Sarek's first wife. Someone else must've been Sybok's mother. Probably was Sarek's childhood betrothed.

Ah, welcome to the muddied waters of 40 years of canon and continuity.

On prearranged marriages and dating.

Perhaps it is the 'upper crust' of Vulcan society that participate in prearranged marriages. One could argue, due to his contacts and influence, that Sarek most likely comes from privilege. He himself was likely betrothed (as mentioned by Pavonis) due to the retconning in ST V, by introducing Spock's older half brother Sybok. Though never mentioned before, or ever-after, who was Sybok's mother and what happened to her? Sarek must not been that attached to her, or to Sybok for that matter, because the only people he cried out for in his last hours as the Bendii syndrome was taking him was Perrin, Amanda, and Spock. So after Sarek's first wife is out of the picture, he obviously must have first dated Amanda, and then later on Perrin.

We know from Amok Time, that Spock was betrothed to T'Pring, but that when his Pon-Far pulled him back to Vulcan, T'Pring rejected him, instead choosing Zonn. Dating? Not sure. Coupled? Yes, they seemed quite close.

Now here is where things get murky and make me wonder if prearranged marriages are just for the upper class. There is no indication what so ever that Saavik was ever betrothed. If we are to believe what was not so subtlety hinted at in ST III, she helped the reborn Spock through Pon-Far, time and again. Taking it another step, there is much speculation that she was pregnant with Spock's child in ST IV and later married him, as hinted at in TNG's Sarek.

So as I said. There is nothing concrete one way or the other.

According to apocrypha, Amanda wasn't Sarek's first wife. Someone else must've been Sybok's mother. Probably was Sarek's childhood betrothed.

Apocrypha nothing, it's explicitly stated by Spock in the movie.

"Sybok's mother was a Vulcan princess. When she died, Sybok and I were raised as brothers".

You could read that as Sarek playing around on Amanda, but I assume he remarried after the death of the Princess and Amanda took on Sybok as a stepson.

The TNG ep Sarek implies that his first wife was from Earth, however. I suppose it's possible he had a first human wife, lost her (either divorce or death) and married Sybok's mother, then took Amanda as his third wife. Or, perhaps more likely, Vulcan familial politics came into play and his marriage to the princess was officially covered up as somehow shameful due to Sybok's actions or because Sarek was seen as a commoner. In the official records, then, Amanda is his first wife.

I still would've like to see the Data/Tasha relationship played out. Tasha went through hell all her life and she deserved a sweet guy like Data.
