I thought Voyager was especially dark considering it's Star Trek. And I'm not just referring to the low output of most of the ships lights either.

A lot of very good, dark episodes mentioned already. But I'm surprised no-one brought up “Night”. Not only has it very little light, it's also rather dark in its theme of loneliness and hopelessness.

Night was the first one I thought of... just watched it last night and it is physically dark, if nothing else

The opening scene in Night was directed so well. And the way they lit the model, too. Space feels really isolated and claustrophobic in that episode. It's like they're flying through Hades.

Pretty much what everyone else said, but any Vidiian-based episode was quick to reminds that no funky disco parties were involved... then again, some people think listening to disco is a worse fate than meeting a Vidiian in a hotel...

I'm still a Voyager-virgin (have only seen maybe 30% of the series), but I watched that ep last night when I had insomnia and found it pretty dark on an emotional level, maybe just because I identify a bit with what B'Elanna experienced.

Has anyone mentioned Vis a Vis? Overall the episode itself is not dark but there is something that I've always thought was pretty dark.

When Steth in Tom's body he basically rapes B'Elanna. Then in the end when he's in Janeway's body and says "say hi to B'Elanna for me" He's kind of throwing that back in Tom's face. I always felt that was a bit dark.

Living Witness was a pretty dark episode. It gave us a hopeful ending, but the way the Voyager Crew is portrayed is almost like Voyager's edition of the Mirror Universe.
