Dark Angel Season 1

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey all, i was a huge fan of this show when it was first aired and am now just getting back into it.

the show still looks completely modern even being that it's now 10 years old.

anyway, i re-watched season 2 and now re-watching season 1. season 2 seemed like the better season to me because it allowed for greater depth and better stories with the introduction of X6's with strange powers.

season 1 seems really bland in comparison.

It was re-released in slim sets, that's about it. I also like season 2, it was a bit more serialized than the first season and had more characters, even if some of them were annoying. I liked the X7 hive-mind kids that communicated through ultra-sonics and the culmination of Logan getting his mobility back that started in Season 1. The second season also had Ashley Scott. Mmmmmm.

Well, I mostly hated Season 2 with annoying Dog Boy. I bought S1 when it first came out, but I never picked up 2.

I didn't like Season 2 very much. Joshua became the show's Jar Jar Binks and I didn't like that they seemed to consciously shift away the emphasis from their dystopian mood which was crafted so well in Season 1. Maybe the latter is just me.

The addition of Alec was definitely the best part... The hybrids weren't quite as interesting as the X Series, if only because there were so many hybrids and we never got to know many of them as characters. Didn't help the only one we saw continuously was Joshua--ugh.

Physically, it doesn't get better than Alba circa Season 1--the shorter, curlier hair? Faaaaaaantastic.

Wish I had the slim packs so they didn't take up as much space on my shelf.

but ya, it would have been better if it wasn't so much 'monster of the week' in s2.

i think i really liked the hybrids because it made the premise much more interesting. it was like 'mm i wonder what else the manticore chemists were able to cook up' who knows what else we could have seen in season 3 and beyond.

I liked the hybrids as a concept, for sure. After all, IIRC they were less sophisticated experiments that led up to the X Series. Definitely helps put Manticore (and the cult) into a context.

I just thought it was handled poorly and instead of throwing out hundreds (dozens? I don't remember) of hybrids into the world right at the start of Season 2, they should have been trickled out. It's one of the problems with the shift of Season 2, they felt the need to quickly and decisively shift focus... And thus the exodus of the hybrids all at once.

Oh so the hybrids came before the X series? i thought they were all created afterward? wasn't that why they were named X6 and not X5?

It's been a long while since I've seen the show, so I'm not confident enough to stand against someone questioning me about it.

I thought the majority/all of the hybrids were experiments/prototypes before/for the X Series. I didn't think the hybrids had ever been given any designation letters/numbers.

Then again, I may be completely misremembering.

They were the early ones, on the way to the x-series. They all had barcodes too except for dogboy, who was the first of them all.

Nah, the X6 were just like the X5's but with less independance, as Manticore had learned after the X5's broke out. The X7's were the hive mind kids.
