Daniel Dae Kim gets a lead rolein Hawaii Five-O

I figured this was a movie and I see that it's actually going to be a series that's remade which strikes me as something different. I can recall all kinds of movie remakes, and I remember having original actors come back and reprise their roles in a later TV series (James Garner as Maverick comes to mind) but I don't remember a complete remake of a classic TV series ever happening (in the US anyway.)

But just like the movie remake, for the most part I'm a believer in letting the original RIP. What's next? Recasting Archie Bunker? Hawkeye Pierce? :wtf:

(Your definition of "classic" may vary.)

Yeah BSG isn't a classic in my book, but it's an example of a remake I hadn't thought of.

Bionic Woman
Knight Rider
Battlestar Galactica
Human Target

Some more examples. But Human Target was on before? Never heard of it until this latest show came up.

I actually thought of another. Dragnet was remade with Ed O'Neil. And there are probably others that I can't remember. So obviously it's not as unheard of as I originally thought.

Of course, with the exception of BSG, what do all those remakes have in common? They all pretty much flopped. Seems like there's a lesson to be learned there.

The Fugitive
V
Dark Shadows

I loved Dragnet. That show would have made it if they hadn't done all that stupid retooling.

I loved the original show. I used to watch the old reruns when I got home from school or on saturday afternoons.

But, while I think a new Hawaii Five-O could be a good show, I wish they wern't trying to "redo" it. Just take the concept and show what the present day Five-O unit is doing.

There is no need to have a new "McGarrett" or "Danno", etc... Just have new characters playing the cops on the show and maybe make reference to old cases, detectives, etc... And maybe have some of the Magnum, P.I. alum show up, since Magnum, P.I. was a spin-off of Hawaii Five-O in the first place.

The early rumor was that the lead would be Chris McGarrett, son of Steve. But now supposedly they're going to flat out remake the show.

DDK will have to go a long way to top his voice role as Johnny Gat in Saints Row as far as I'm concerned! (And he better be in Saints Row 3 this years as well - I guess we'll find out when it's previewed at E3 in May...)
