News Daniel Craig signs up for Bond 25, Christopher Nolan in talks to direct

It makes a lot of sense when you consider how much China factors into global box office these days; Craig's four films have pulled in a total of $175M in China, with each new one earning more than the previous entry, to the point where China was the third biggest territory for Spectre after the US/Canada and UK/Ireland.

Ahhh, yeah, that's a good point. I thought it was a little odd to push it back. Are all major films going to be pushed back, too? Pixar, Marvel, etc.?

But the Chinese market does make sense.

Got to be honest, this annoys me. I'll get over it, but at the moment it annoys me.

Nothing's been announced yet, but there is speculation in the coming weeks we can expect a lot of shuffling around being done by the studios. Though mostly related to the fact that now there are movies in November and December that will have to compete against James Bond that didn't have to before.

*testicular cancer*
5. Another Way to Die
Some doofus on the Internet once made a fan edit of "Another Way to Die", stripping out all the show-off-y crooning, fourth wall-breaking "bang bang" utterances, and completely superfluous final minute. I myself think the result, a stripped-down, lyric-heavy track, is pretty dang good:

The delay doesn't surprise me; as others have said, Asian box office is hugely important to studios nowadays.

That it's all the way to November, while other studios haven't shifted their 2020 tentpole releases at all, screams that someone at Eon or Universal or MGM dropped a stinkbomb and said, "Holy shit, we need re-shoots or re-edits on this thing."

Well I wonder if in part it's finding another available slot, summer isn't always a great time for blockbusters and November is when Bond has usually come out for some time now. I mean originally Boyle's Bond should have come out last November.

That being said I'll be amazed if the time isn't used to at the very least tweak/polish the film.

Seems there was two factors into its postponement. 1. That it would have lost $400 in Asian territories and 2. The plot seems to have specific content concerning biological warfare that would have made the timing of its release seem very inappropriate given the climate of the world with the coronavirus. Postponing to a later date not only increases the likelihood of a better box office run but also the hope we have moved past the panic that’s been going on.

I suppose we’ll see how hard it hits other films. If movies like FAST & FURIOUS perform horribly as a result of the pandemic then EON would be praised for having seen the tea leaves. If the films still become billion dollar hits in late Spring, it’ll make EON look like they simply flinched at nothing.

While we're waiting, let's enjoy a different kind of James Bond:

People are literally dying but, sure, make a joke about how it's annoying you now that it's inconveniencing your film viewing.

It's a day that ends with Y so people will always be dying, that's life. How many people have died this year from the normal flu?

Does anyone really think this will be under control by November?

I'm in the camp that this is Sony delaying the movie because it's garbage and needs reshoots while kind of blaming the virus.

I don't know. Spectre was rubbish and still made shit loads, can't imagine this is worse. Interesting to note that Black Widow and FF9 are powering on though.

The SNL sketch is kinda funny. Still not as funny as this...

They are May releases. It's possible they might be waiting a few more weeks to see how things develop regarding the virus before deciding anything. Incidentally, the virus is currently being blamed for the beating Pixar's Onward took at the box office this past weekend.

Both FAST & FURIOUS 9 and A QUIET PLACE II have been delayed. The former for April 2021 and the latter with no date set.

Seems EON made the right call. Even though we don’t know how things will be in November, it’s looking certain April wouldn’t have been a good month to release it.

Same for Mulan and The New Mutants. :sigh:

But don't worry, the conspiratorial naysayers will still claim the film was delayed because of worries over the film sucking and EON is just using the coronavirus as a cover. ;)

Man the movie theater industry which is already a pretty thin margin business is gonna be going through some ugly times from this along with people just not going as much in general because of the virus

The silliest thing about that conspiracy by Midnight’s Edge and the like is that tickets were already on sale. If there were test screenings as bad as the rumors claim MGM would have never put tickets on sale. And there’s no evidence of any reshoots.

But hey, maybe ALL these films are being reshot. ;)

I'm utterly bewildered how ME even still has an audience.

And I say this as someone who had no intention of seeing the film in theatres.
