It was also the one of the Craig era that David Arnold was involved in writing. Just sayin'.
It took me a long time to like Cornell's. I love it now but I definitely didn't at first.
Arnold is sorely missed. CR's score is great, particularly in the way "You Know My Name" is woven in as an instrumental theme throughout.
That's something he did regularly, even when the song he co-wrote wasn't picked for the theme song. You can hear cues from KD Lang's "Surrender" in the score of "Tomorrow Never Dies", Garbage's "The World Is Not Enough" in the score of that movie, he even co-wrote the song Amy Winehouse was supposed to do for "A Quantum of Solace", which he later gave to Shirley Bassey for her album "The Performance" (which someone on YT put over the opening credits):
And cues from that are all over the QoS score.
Of course, John Barry used to do the same thing with his Bond scores.
^ Sure, but I think it works particularly well in CR -- both because "You Know My Name" has such a muscular melody, and because it serves as kind of an alternate Bond theme throughout, since they're saving the Norman classic till the end.
Not a bad song, but it's not a great one either.
It's right in the middle of the Craig era's songs. Not as good as "You Know My Name" or "Skyfall," not as bad as "Another Way to Die" or "Writing's On the Wall."

It's second best behind "Skyfall", and depending on how it meshes with the title sequence and how the Hans Zimmer score utilizes it, it may be the best of the Craig era. For now, this is where it ranks for me:

With the exception of "You Know My Name", I don't like any of the songs that Arnold served as a producer. YNMN benefited from Cornell having more control over the song. "Surrender" by k.d. Lang sounds like a lame big band piece that's so backwards sounding that I don't blame EON for rejecting it in favor of a more contemporary sounding song (though I don't even like Sheryl Crow's effort either). Garbage suffered as well with "The World is Not Enough". And though I love that Bassey can still belt out a song at her age, again suffers with Arnold's big band approach (with the usual electronic flourishes like that annoying buzzing sound he implemented in both "Surrender" and "No Good About Goodbye") .
As far as songs by Arnold goes, I think his most interesting work was in the Shaken and Stirred album where he took old Bond tunes and "updated" them to a more contemporary sound while still retaining Bondian elements. It feels much fresher than his own termed "one foot in the 60s" approach he did with the actual scores and songs.

It's not just you. My only worry is that she's only going to be in NTTD for 5 minutes or something.

There was an article on the Beeb mentioning that people were asking for it to be delayed til Summer because of health concerns but I don't know if that's the thinking behind it.
