Danai Gurira to join Star Trek 4(?)

Damn!

Badass MoFo General Okoye of the Dora Milaje from Black Panther (also Michonne from Walking Dead) is apparently under consideration for a role in Star Trek 4! At this point her appearing in ST4 is just a possibility, not a sure thing yet, but it would be amazing!

I'm not really into "Walking Dead", but IMO she was one of the many, many acting highlights of Black Panther.

So who's she gonna' play?

Kelvin-timeline version of Michael Burnham?:guffaw:
Guinan? (Hopefully) someone completely new?

We'll see! I just hope they give her a major role in the film, and not just a bit part.

(Also, I want Sofia Boutella back as Jaylah, maybe even taking Anton Yelchin's spot on the bridge - though that is a completely different topic - but a whole bunch of kick-ass women in one place surely can't hurt this franchise!)

Oh my god I didn't think of Guinan. That might be all kinds of epic because this is about the time the Borg assimilated her homeworld.

I remember talk of casting McCoy's ex for Orci's unmade movie. If this is indeed that plot with George Kirk replacing Kirk Prime, perhaps she'll be the former Mrs McCoy?

Apparently GODZILLA VS. KONG also wants her. Unsure if she'll have to choose between them.

He may want her now, but once he gets her to the top of the Empire state building he'll have no idea what to do with her, whereas she could do so much more with Star Trek

The issue is a new creative team always wants to add their own new characters, and since the existing crew is already big, they tend to drop the secondary characters from other movies because it isn't easy to give to all the existing main characters enough screentime.
I'd like to see either of them (Carol, Jaylah , hell even Gaila) back, but I recognize they need to think about what kind of role they can have on the ship and if their skills are useful to the plot.

It honestly seems some trek fans want to have the cake and eat it too, though. On one hand, some stay criticizing the writers everytime it seems they take some screentime from the guys and original status quo (eg. Mccoy, the original trio nostalgia) to focus on different characters and new dynamics, but then, on the flip side, also complain because they expect the same writers to give more screentime to other original crew characters and new secondary characters TOO, and criticize them for not keeping them all.
That's disingenuos because you can't complain the same faces aren't front and center all the time in the same breath you also complain they don't do enough with the other characters AND the new ones.
I noticed this hypocrisy even among some critics because they were calling Beyond out on the fact it seemed they sidelined Uhura and Sulu, thus demanded the writers to do more with the ensemble, but on the flip side they weren't willing to criticize the reasons why the writers couldn't do that. .

I believe the priority should be further developing the existing characters. If you add too many new faces you may end up, once again, frustrating the ones who, after many movies, still wish to know the main characters better.
I recognize the limits of a movie vs tv-show too, and if they really want to achieve more balance and use all the characters, then a definite choice must be made because you can't have a real ensemble when the narrative is still so stuck and blocked by the limits of the original series.

There actually is an open spot on the 'main crew' at the moment. (Unless they intend to recast Chekov) Putting Jaylah in that spot wouldn't actually take time away from new secondary characters. And I don't think each new movie automatically needs to introduce new secondary characters beyond the villains, anyway.

Sounds good to me. I'm going to go outside of the box though and what if she plays Robau's daughter who is even more kick-ass than, him!

Yeah, but creative teams apparently think they need to put new characters in every movie.

Replacing Chekov means putting a new navigation officer. I guess if they wanted to, Jaylah could assume that role if she has graduated already, but I see her being more interested about Scotty's job than Chekov's.
