Dac's NX-01(.5) & more!

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

You know, if they had just started with a design like this, I think the fans would have been much more forgiving.

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

Well, after staring rather intently at the SOTL centerfold for about half hour, I decided I wasnt quite there with the secondary hull. So I started again. :)

That's how shes looking at the moment, I feel its a fair bit more accurate this way. Plus, the way I've built it this time round allows me to add more detail much more easily (I dunno WHAT I was thinking with that sphere/cylinder intersection combo doohicky from before).

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

If I asked a big favor and do one without the connecting from the saucer hull to the nacelles, would you consider it? I would really love to see what that would look like. Just end what looks like the impulse engines at the back of the saucer. Please!!!!

Seeing as you asked ever so nicely ;)

If you can live with a slight gap in the pylons...here ya go:

My initial impression? Its odd but without the contoured catamarans it does make it look about 100 years less advanced and more vulnerable (which Is what I guess it should have been). Still though, if the neck was bulked up, and the nacelles were brought in closer to the hull, that would have been a great proto-prise.

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

^ It does need to have a few elements balanced here and there. It is also missing the main impulse rockets. (Hmmmm... Where could those go?) But I do have to say, even with her nacelles thrown far up like that, she looks awesome.

And the more I think about it the more I am willing to consider this configuration as the model for the "next generation" of ships for this era. The proper evolution of the tech is there, it looks like the NX-01's cousin and it still appears less advanced than the Connie. :bolian: Excellent!

Dac,

Thank you for humoring me. I really, really appreciate it. In my opinion, I think this looks a million times better. I'm talking about the design not your wonderful modeling skills. Again, thank you.

Kinda reminds me of the Bonaventure... :vulcan:

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

Nice! I always thought Enterprise's dish looked wrong, and they fixed that on Columbia. One nitpick - they also adjusted Columbia's color on the show to be a bit more silvery-gray than Enterprise's copper color.

Heh, believe it or not I did change the colour to a more whiteish tone, but the main light kinda overpowers it (In reality, my NX-01 is more grey than it appears, I just couldnt quite get the colour right, but with the lighting, it looks like its about right :p).

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

Awesome updates. Now seeing with the catamaran design kind of makes me wish we could have seen a possible design when they had the duplicate Enterprise show up.

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

I wonder if the Columbia would also receive the refit that the Enterprise got...
