Cyfa's art challenges and other bits & bobs

Wow! Thank you, @darklight11111 - that's very kind of you to say so. And thanks for the likes, too. The great thing about this Fan Art forum is that there are so many fantastic artists here, creating all sorts of things in so many different ways and styles (I see you've found quite a few of them :)). And, on the whole, everyone is really encouraging, critiques are constructive, and - most importantly - it's fun! Do you have an artistic side? Anything that you'd like to share here in the Fan Art forum?

As for social media, the only places where I have a presence online are here, my blog: Inexplicable Device (which is mostly non-Trek, but does include everything I post here, plus other Trek bits & bobs), and to a much lesser extent, Deviant Art (which has a few Trek pieces from here, along with photos of my surrounding environs). No twitter, Instagram or the like, and I gave up on Farcebook years ago. I hope you find something you like!

Ah, yes, that pesky Phylosian peeking out from behind the Capellan flowers. Good spot, @Atolm!

Despite coming up with the theme for this month's art challenge, Princessium and the Po (Royalty in Star Trek), I hadn't even thought about what I was going to do, and I'm only now getting some ideas together:
HMY%2BBritannia%2Band%2BHRH%2BPrince%2BNikesh%2B%2526%2BHRH%2BPrincess%2BAyonparine%2Bsketch.jpg

Here we have a not-yet-glued-together cardboard cut-out Royal Yacht, HMY Britannia (Oberth-class starship), in the colours/livery of the most recent Royal Yacht Britannia. Also, a hastily sketched 23rd century British Royal couple, HRH Prince Nikesh (Human) & HRH Princess Ayonparine (Andorian) decked out in their Starfleet dress uniforms (Britannia colours again).
Whether I'll do anything with either of these, or come up with something different, remains to be seen...

Have any of you got any ideas/made a start on anything yet?

That looks really nice! If you can settle down a colour scheme I might be able to make a nice render :-)

I've collected the models I wanted but find that some cleaning needs to be done before I can effectively use them...

- For real?!? (My sarcasm detector must be on the fritz... :rommie:) Well, those are the colours I'm going to go with: red for the keel, a dark navy blue hull with a gold stripe near the top, then white upper parts with that ivory/barleyish hue for the three indents on the pylon and the warp field grill/vents (to match the three masts and the funnel on the real Britannia).
I hadn't planned to put much detail on it, so no windows, sensor strips or hull pennants/markings - if I use it, it'll be as part of the background of a scene (like a poster, or bit of art, or something).
I'd love to see your Oberth-class model done up in these colours (with or without details)! You know, if you really want to do so, that is :bolian:

this is why I wanted at least 2 comps a month, I get to see more cool stuff.

selfish bastard me

Oh, wow! Look at it! It's amazing, @BorgMan!

I had a thought after I replied yesterday, that I might turn the front of the white convex top of the secondary hull into panoramic windows. Within would be a wooden deck for hosting royal engagements and stargazing etc.

@BK613, why did I click the link? WHY?!? I'm never going to unsee that now :wah::lol:

@Cyfa Sorta sorry about that but my dad worked for Goodyear for all my life (until his retirement) and that blue and gold is spot on. Even for an ex-Navy guy like me that was the first thing that came to mind.

Hmmm... There are some unexpected problems. Mainly: the navigational lights on the top of the secondary hull:

They're bleaching out the view. At the same time, they're kind of needed? So I need to fiddle with them a bit. It's mainly the front one, but the one at the aft is annoying as well.

And here I am, thinking "Oh, it's just a repaint. That's easily done" ;-)

- Well, whatever fiddling you've done seems to have worked because it looks great! Beautiful, even. Anyone for a game of quoits?

Ok, that's just a really neat idea for using the Oberth in a completely different way. LOVE IT
- Borgman's done areally amazing job at this, hasn't he?!

With the sun out, it's barely better:

It doesn't help that the only light sources inside are the small closed-off piece at the top, and the horizontal support running the length of the panorama deck. That needs to change as well...

I don't think I can help with that - my mind just goes to "more/brighter lightbulbs", which I'm sure you've considered. Unless... Is there some sort of unrealistic universal light source in whatever program you're using that could be turned on?
Yeah, OK, I'll stick to drawing

Wait! You are using an Oberth as a starliner? Hmmmm, interesting idea, though those windows would just give a view of the underside of the saucer wouldn't they? lol But that is a cool idea.

- Thanks, @darklight11111. While at warp, yes, looking up from the observation/fore deck would give a lovely view of the saucer's nether regions (avert your eyes, children!). However, once Britannia has arrived at the destination of choice (the Jovian system, the glass asteroid belt of Beta Veldonna, or the Thinking Planet of DD Tauri, for example), the actual yacht separates from the upper engineering & saucer section and begins the royal cruise, with the observation deck allowing magnificent views fit for a queen!

I was afraid you'd say that. Now I'll have to figure out a proper seperation...
