Yeah, you'd think it'd be common sense, but what about Nick Cannon? How is he still employed by his company with the shit he said? Way worse than Sawyer's posts (from years ago).
I had to look up who Cannon is, but could it be that he's higher-ranked in the relevant organization? I gather he created one of the shows he still hosts, so maybe that gives him more job security there. Or maybe it's a function of how his coworkers feel? I seem to recall some statements from Sawyer's colleagues that they felt hurt and betrayed on learning of his comments. Maybe they just don't want him back.
Or maybe it's because so much of The CW's target audience consists of the groups Sawyer's old comments insulted, and because the network plays up inclusiveness and social activism as a key part of its brand. I don't know how the audience considerations might differ for FOX or MTV or whatever, though.
If I recall, it was ONE colleague that complained that he/she was "uncomfortable" with (was it) 10 year old Twitter posts.
The rest, i gather, had to fall in line, since he/she is an OG co-star.
One who did so publicly. I daresay most conflicts and controversies within any given business are handled privately, and public statements are the exception rather than the rule. What we see of the behind-the-scenes business of any show is merely the tip of the iceberg. Which is why the decisions made in the industry often seem cryptic or arbitrary to us. We just don't have the whole story.
I was waiting for some kind of explanation for the Hydrogen, as in that the blimp was loaded with H so it could be used as a weapon. It never came.
As for the stadium, you are right especially in the sense that STAR labs appeared in the very next shot. It was also weird to me because the rest of the city was CGI--and when the blimp pulled away from the stadium it looked like it was going to hit a building.
So true: one has idealized versions of us, one has disappointing real life people...

So Sue is finally back, and it looks like she'll be around for a while (with Ralph being conveniently "busy" somewhere else). I'm so sick of the cliche of easily circumvented laser security grids (nobody actually uses lasers in security systems, precisely because they are so easy to get around), but this was entertaining because of the way they poked fun at the cliche by turning it into a dance -- and because Natalie Dreyfuss looked really sexy doing it. Also, it looked like they did it with genuine lasers rather than VFX, which was a nice bit of on-set choreography.
Sue referenced the DeMatteis Academy of Dance, no doubt a nod to prolific comics/animation writer J.M. DeMatteis, though I'm not sure why they name-dropped him specifically. Anyway, Ms. Dreyfuss mispronounced his name. I was introduced to him at NY Comic-Con once (by Keith DeCandido, I think), and as I recall, his name is pronounced "De-Matt-iss."
Anyway, they've finally followed up on the Psycho-Pirate cameo in Elseworlds, but not in the way I was hoping. They used him to set up the Crisis, implying that he had a connection to the Monitor like in the comics, but then they just dropped that. I was hoping that the mask's return here would have some kind of a Crisis tie-in, maybe as a way of revealing to Team Flash that the multiverse still exists. But no, it was just an evil mask (that seemed to work like the Helm of Nabu, with a consciousness possessing its wearers).

This episode did not do much for me. Seeing Sue was nice. Poor Ralph. He just gets name dropped. Crazy-Cecile in the mindscape was freaky. Chester accidentally catching Barry and Iris getting it on was cringey.

Yeah, that was beautiful. Although in a totally different way, seeing Sue and Ultraviolet go at it in those black catsuits was pretty amazing too. A lot of lovely ladies in this show.
Whenever they do one of these "The Flash is away so it's just us" episodes, I wonder about all the free-floating superheroes who are theoretically still around in the Arrowverse despite not being in a show anymore, like Kid Flash, the Hawks, Vixen (Mari), or the Atom. There should be a bunch of pinch-hitters that a team could call in when the main hero is away, so as not to leave the city undefended.
Meanwhile, it seems that Kramer isn't dirty after all, and she and Joe are on the same page now. That's sort of what I expected. Though it was weird when Cecile said Kramer was in charge of the CCPD now. She's just the captain of Joe's precinct. David Singh is the chief of police, as they mentioned later in the episode.
I happened to look up Ultraviolet on the Arrowverse Wiki today, and I discovered that her voice is dubbed by a different actress, Erika Soto. So I guess if Caitlin is able to repair Esperanza's voice, we might hear Alexa Barajas's real voice for the first time. I'm a little surprised, actually, that they didn't just cast a stuntwoman in the role, since it was essentially a non-speaking part.
Are the writers afraid to actually use The Flash in Flash episodes? I'm watching this week and this is basically Flash is Name Only. When you basically write out your main character early in the episode, my immediate reaction was that of boredom. What made Cisco, Caitlin, and Wells work was one they started the show with Barry, but more than that they developed along with Barry. It was the relationships to Barry that made me like those characters. Now we barely see Chester or Allegra with Barry Allan and they are basically B characters. They could have easily allowed Barry and Allegra to work together in this episode (And if you wanted to include Sue, fine) but instead they basically allowed Gustin the week off. I'm sorry but I'm watching The Flash, and I expect The Flash to be in The Flash. Social distancing doesn't mean write out your main character for episodes of his own series. If Gustin can't do filming because of reasons, delay the show or give it a hiatus. We understand. Having an episode that basically just says goodbye to Barry in the first 5 minutes is not good.
I partially agree with you on that. I am sure they have real reasons why Grant had such limited screen time. Whatever those are, it is what is.
Full agreement that they need to build a relationship between Barry and these new characters. More so just develop them as characters. As it is now it’s liking watching 3rd Shift at Star Labs. I have worked night shift. You barely know the people who work during the day. Often you never see them at all. Allegra’s relationship is with Iris not Barry. The original Team Flash actually new each other. Now it’s just a corporate title of who is working at any particular time.
Another analogy, ok maybe very strained - it’s like watching a play but most of the cast if off for the night. So we see a version with their understudies instead. It really feels that way with Chester. Complete copy of Cisco.
At this point I am not even sure who Caitlin is anymore. With Frost as now a separate person she is just the on duty Doctor at Star Labs. Frost was the major aspect of her personality for many seasons. So we get a dull version of Frost. Curious what Danielle Panabaker really feels about it. The Caitlin scenes without her interacting with Frost give her little to do but provide medical exposition.

It's hardly the first time they've done a "Flash-lite" episode. There are typically at least a couple of episodes per season where Gustin barely appears, or where he never dons the Flash suit. Sometimes that's to free up his schedule for filming the mega-crossovers (and the other shows do the same with their leads), but part of it, I gather, is just that being the lead hero in an action- and FX-heavy series like this puts a lot of demands on Gustin's time and energies, so they give him time off occasionally to accommodate that.
All the more reason why it was good to let them take the lead and establish themselves without being overshadowed by the bigger stars. The advantage of an ensemble cast is that you can spread out the load.
Nothing wrong with a change of pace once in a while.
I could watch Natalie Dreyfus in anything. My biggest complaint is I wish she was given more screen time. Was this the 2nd week in a row Sue said she is not leaving Central City but sticking around awhile? Seemed redundant.

Yeah, that was a bit weird. Although I think she said here that the reason she stuck around last week was because she was tracking Ultraviolet, so once UV was dealt with, she needed another motivation to stay, which was having bonded more with the team. So it kind of makes sense, but it still felt a bit off.
I don't care, though, as long as she keeps wearing that catsuit...
