CSI Star Trek episode

I just watched this thursday's CSI with Holy Stephen. The commercial for next week shows them checking out a Star Trek convention or something like that. Liz Vassey is a super Trek fan in the episode. I figure they'll make fun of Star Trek fans on the same level as Furries or something like that, but it should be interesting.

Edit: I was looking at Liz Vassey on IMDB to make sure she was the woman I was thinking of. There were videos with her in different shows. One was Married with Children. She is in the last 6 or 7 minutes. She was smoking hot and really dumb in the episode.

It's an in-joke making Liz Vassey's character a Trek fan, since Vassey actually appeared in Trek, in TNG's "Conundrum." When the crew had their memories wiped, her character (Kristin) was in sickbay in a bathing suit and thus had no idea who or what she was supposed to be.

CSI's current showrunner, Naren Shankar, is a former TNG producer, and its supervising producers Bradley Thompson & David Weddle, who also wrote next week's episode, were members of DS9's writing staff in its final two seasons and also worked on Battlestar Galactica. So I assume that Trek fandom will be treated with a degree of respect, or that any teasing will be affectionate. IMDb lists Ron Moore and Kate Vernon as playing themselves, and comic book artist Arne Starr (a veteran of DC's Trek comics) as another guest, so it's clearly not just a Trek convention. I seem to recall reading that they shot it at an actual con in progress. So it should be fairly authentic.

^ I gave up on CSI a long time ago, but i might check that one out when it airs over here.

IIRC Lawrence Fishburne said that he was a Star Trek fan around the time he was promoting Event Horizon.

Wonder if his real-life wife, Gina Torres, will be seen in the background at a Firefly stand in the convention?!

Might be but might not be. I don't think that there is a working actor in Hollywood that hasn't been on Trek at some point in their career so it could purely be coincidental.

The assumption there is that all Trek producers have respect for Trek fandom.

But really, let's think this through a little. Would a CBS show take adump on Trek three weeks before the new film? I don't think so.

The sci-fi show featured in this episode isn't really Star Trek, but rather a faux-Trek show called "Astral Quest". Odd they chose to do that, considering CBS owns both CSI and Trek. :vulcan:
