CSI IS COMING BACK

I’ll give it a watch. I was into it for the first three seasons, because then they focused on compelling mysteries and Grissom was an unapologetic nerd. Later the show became more driven by the less interesting character arcs and the crimes became less compelling and far less believable. If they can get back to compelling, realistic crimes I’ll watch it again.

The episode that made me lose interest completely had a guy directly confront the murderer that he knew he was guilty then go off alone into a tanning booth with nobody else in the building.

I don’t care if your characters solve the crime with human intuition or advanced forensic science. Write your characters with some passable amount of survival instinct!

I'll watch this as I was always a fan, and it'll be good to see Gil and Sarah again (though I thought Danson was great) and I'm glad Hodges will be back. Still miss some of the other old timers like Catherine, Nick, Greg and Morgan but maybe we'll get the odd guest appearance if the show lasts beyond it's first series.

I wonder if Petersen and Fox are scheduled to be in it long term, or just in the first series as a sort of passing of the torch? Didn't Petersen leave the first time because he has skin problems and didn't like working in the sunshine all the time?

Tbh, apart from watching the first ep... I will be avoiding the show. The original show and CBS treated Gil and Sara shippers like dung when the characters got divorced. So apart from a morbid curiosity to see how they're doing, I don't care about it.

Out of all the people who left the show why was Warrick the only one killed? Did the actor do something bad?

Yeah he had a drug problem as I recall.

Actually just checked Wikipedia and it mentions the drug charges, but says they apparently didn't have anything to do with him leaving as he'd already filmed his last scenes shortly before the incident. It was contractual why he left. Fox left for contractual reasons as well although she wasn't killed and ended up coming back for the last few seasons.

Not really relevant but I seem to recall some gossip way back when the show was just a few seasons old suggesting Eads and Fox got into trouble for terrible timekeeping

I suppose he was only shot in his last episode, not confirmed dead until next season.

But it’s weird he was the only one they cut off any option of coming back later.

Year, maybe they were already semi-aware of his issues or maybe he asked to be killed off, maybe they'd decided to kill off the next character who left. I like to hope there wasn't some other reason.

Pure speculation based on the CBS trailer.

  • (former?) cop/detective Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) is reprising his role in the two first episodes.
  • Apparently there is a "secret" lab in a storage lot, which was used to fake evidence that threatens to bring down crime lab overall.
  • His daughter died of drug overdose if I remember correctly.
What if Brass has been on a vendetta to put known criminals who are lawyer-ed up/hard to get in prison with fake evidence?

That looks really good. It's too bad that they burnt me on watching another CSI with how they treated Gil/Sara shippers though.

I'll definitely check out ep one. Why do I get the feeling the legacy characters won't be sticking around for very long?

^ I wonder if Petersen and Fox are just coming back for the first series. I could see Hodges staying on beyond that though. There's always the possibility of them rotating legacy characters in future series I guess; ie Nick or Catherine popping up, especially if ratings were dropping.

That's a good question. Like they're doing this case through the season... but what happens afterwards? Maybe. Depending on how the ratings shake out.

IMO, we're more likely to get either Kay Panabaker or Katie Stevens reprising their role as CSI Lindsay Willows than Marg Helgenberger as Catherine Willows as Marg has just come off two seasons of another show for CBS and might want a break.

I decided to give it a chance this week and it's pretty good! The banter between Gil and Sara is on point and the new cast members are good as well.

Different legacy characters each season? And then for the final season, they all come back (minus Eads, of course).
