News Cruz: I’ll Be Back

I'm happy for this, overall. Also, the background between the actors as friends was just wonderful to hear about. All I have to wonder is...Why the hell kill him in the first place, then?!

I'm really hoping that 2 or 3 seasons down the line, that his death really did HAVE to be integral with their wonderful, series spanning love story, but right now I just can't help feeling that death was nothing but for shock value and we're getting jerked around. I'm hoping that his full blown return to life will be handled well and not freaking stupid, making his death even more meaningless. I mean, Kristen Beyer handled Captain Janeway's book resurrection pretty damn well, in my opinion. Her death had a HUGE impact on Chakotay and was pivotal in shaping their relationship upon her return.

I'm audibly groaning about this. I didn't hate the character (didn't have much impression either way of the character, tbh, he's been in a hanful of short scenes) and didn't want him to be killed off, but now that it's done, can the writers at least avoid the "dead but not really" cliché?

Have the guts to follow through with your writing decisions, ffs!

I swear the Discovery team sound like they're all talking from the same playbook. 'Don't worry, there is a plan'.

Fell for that one before and did not like the plan, lol.

Literally the buried magical queer trope lol. There was big controversy over this trope a few years ago, but it's back in force here, guess memories are short.

Would probably be more interested if there had been the slightest interest from any of the characters about the fact he died in the first place. They don't give a shit, so it's hard to see his return as that important.

Including Stamets, who barely seems to have registered the fact his life partner has died a violent death

Sounds like some protomatter and pre-Genesis Genesis device are coming down the pike.

I suspect, possibly, maybe we're gonna see evil Dr. Culber blaming Stamets....for Stamets death. In otherwords, we prolly haven't seen the last of the MU.

If he's back I hope it's as a head character, if season 2 is about science vs. belief that could be part of it. Stamets believes or wants to believe he's real while others on the crew think the spore network and genetic modifications are screwing with his mind.
Tilly would probably be on Stamet's side.
