I don't see why so many people hang on to the Data thing. It was a couple of lines very early on that was very quickly gone away from. She had her epiphany when they were going to die in the shuttlecraft together, and it was never an issue again.
This. Very much this. It's like the "Kirk slept with everyone" trope. It's way exaggerated. Yes, Data and Pulaski got off to a rocky start. But I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that some people wouldn't be comfortable with the idea of serving alongside an android. And she quickly realized she was wrong and they did fine after that.

I also thought her fear of the transporter was very relatable. Yes, McCoy had a similar fear. So what? He can't be the only one. No one thought they were ripping off McCoy when Barclay had an issue. Trek always treats it as though fear of the transporter is wholly unreasonable, but realistically it's not. Heck, in TMP they joke about McCoy's fear of the transporter right after two people were literally killed in a transporter accident!

good point about the transporter - and again, that was referenced 2, maybe 3 times during the entire season; just like the Data thing, it is blown way out of proportion.

Maybe it's in the way the fear is portrayed for both; crochety orneriness. How about white-knuckle fear? Panicked breaths? Nervous laughter?

"Relax, that almost never happens. I mean, what are the odds? One in a bazillion? Just ignore the fact that it...just...happened...right...in...front...of........you...."
