Cowboy Bebop Live Action Movie is a Go!

Thespeckledkiwi

I was looking somethings up tonight about Cowboy Bebop when I caught a little bit of a nugget at the end of the Wikipedia article on the show. Apparently there IS going to be a live action show and that 20th century fox signed off on it this summer. Apparently Keanu Reeves is rumored for the part of Spike.

Some blurbs from article 2

Following Akira and Ghost in the Shell announcements, apparently Cowboy Bebop is in for a live-action adaptation as well. IF Magazine talked with veteran producer Erwin Stoff (via AICN) and discovered that he's working on making a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie with Fox.

Hmm, I knew about both of those as well. So we'll get a bunch of live action animes soon.

nfortunately both Dragonball and this adaptation are at Fox, which isn't a good sign so far, but maybe they'll find a good director. However, I'm enjoying Hollywood's anime trend and am anxious to see what they're going to do with Cowboy Bebop.

This brings up a point. What are they going to be adapting? Are they going to come up with a new storyline or are they going to go ahead and work in the show? Or are they going to go off on some other tangent?

And how the hell do you cast Ed???

The only way to cast Ed is to find a young tomboy gymnast with acting abilities...then spike her food with something illegal.

Yeah, I heard about that a few months back when it was leaked/announced. I think it's a fairly good choice for adaptation personally, better than a lot of other proposed works, and I think it could do well. I think if film just adapted the parts of the series dealing with Spike, Vicious, and the Red Dragon Syndicate it would be pretty awesome.

Also apparently they are going for a 2010 release and well, they said a lot more anime is going to be coming out (Hollywood not only scraping the bottom of the barrel but now robbing overseas markets??? LOL Kidding!)

Just keep in mind that these live action adaptation rumors come and go. Some of them have been arround for years with jack squat comming out, Battle Angel, Robotech, and Neon Genesis Evangellion for example. Whether it comes togather is a crapshoot.

I wonder if the actress that plays Faye will be wearing the two piece yellow outfit?

That was when we didn't have any anime live action movies been made. Now we got Dragonball coming out, others in the works. It's the start of this.

Maybe they'll go the Speed Racer route in casting and find actors like Christina Ricci and Emile Hirsch who already look like live-action anime characters. :rommie:

Here's hoping that, in all other respects, Speed Racer isn't the model for all based-on-anime flicks in the future...man, that was bad...

*** place holder to edit for bitching when details come out and it isn't exactly like the anime ***

Seriously though, the biggest thing with this one will be tone, I'm more interested in them being able to keep that laid-back "jazz" kind of tone the series had more than getting all the little details correct.

Dakota Fanning a few years ago might have been a good Edward but she's getting past that awkward gangly stage now as she gets older.

That is a good point Mr. Adventure. The tone is going to be the most important factor in this movie. The fact that Wantanabe (god I can't spell his name) can do so well fusing two different mediums together is outstanding.

I heard about this a few months ago. I loved the anime, and I'll probably give this a shot. I'm very interested in seeing how they handle things.
