White tie rods?
Thank you very kindly, scotpens; that's what I get for making assumptions. Whoops! (wipes egg--er, plomik soup off face)
TheOldMixer, that's too funny! It's a pity they didn't have a sample from that asteroid handy by, the one from "The Paradise Syndrome."
I don't know about Enterprise, but the last Abrams movie made me appreciate Khan's genetically programmed ability to morph from a Mexican Sikh (!!) into a pasty white guy.
I always wondered what the purpose of those "tubes" were. Other than a billyclub, can anyone speculate an engineering purpose?
Actually, I don't remember which episode but I distinctly remember Scotty had a honkin big actual Monkey Wrench standing in the corner of Engineering. I wish I could remember the episode, I wonder if Trek Core has a pic of that.
Engineers aboard the USS Enterprise used wrenches in the late 23rd century. Ben Finney used a wrench found in the Enterprise engineering room as a weapon against Kirk. (TOS: "Court Martial")
Never mind the tubes, what are those colorful doodads on the smooth black surface? Jumpers for connecting the dots in the vertical panel?
Perhaps the panel with the holes in it channels vast powers or plasma currents or whatnot (mainly in emergencies where subtler means have failed) - and it's a dangerous task to insert or remove a jumper. So it's not done with bare hands, but with this long tube that has a handle at one end and grapples the jumpers with the other, allowing them to be moved from the flat magnetic storage surface to their destination without close contact and without even the need to lean too close. It's for this reason that plenty of those tubes are provided right next to the panel...
