Could the "Informant" increase the chances of a "Quantum Leap" movie?

I noticed that Bakula seems to have a prominent role in the movie, or that is my impression from the previews. If this movie is a success then it will be a boom to his career which means I could see them wanting to bring him back in a "Quantum Leap" project. I sometimes wonder if "Enterprise" hurt the chances of a QL comeback due to how unpopular the Archer character was. It makes no sense to me that QL would have such a hard time getting a remake or a movie.

People forget that QL was one of the few sci-fi shows that was able to have mainstream appeal and popularity. It got good ratings for most of it's run on a major network. Granted this was awhile ago but still it's something you would think would have appeal to people in Hollywood who are always trying to bring back old tv shows and movies.

Eh, I'm not so sure about that. He was interviewed on... CNN?... the other day to promote The Informant, and the anchor brought up the question of whether we'd see any new QL, and Scott basically said that it's unlikely at the foreseeable moment. He, Dean, and Don all want to do one, but the rights and what-not are all caught up in legal issues or whatever.

So... who knows.

All I know is what Scott said, so my own conjecture is that Don wants to make sure that if a QL movie gets made, he'll have full creative control. Which I don't mind at all; after learning about that script Trey Callaway wrote, I'm GLAD that didn't get produced.

To add to what I posted in the above link, under my other alias "Avilos", It appears all the involved parties with rights to QL have veto power. Don can not do a Leap project without Universal and Universal can not do one without Don.

The wildcard in this situation is Deborah Pratt. Writer and Producer of Quantum Leap. Plus the ex-wife of QL creator Don Bellisario. I was at the recent QL convention. Their descriptions of the potential for future QL and the actions of each other don't match up. Clearly there are personal issues involved here as well. She may even control a percentage of the show rights herself.

Hola, Avilos! *waves* Now I know who you are over here!

In my own ideal world, Don and Deborah would work together to make a Quantum Leap mini-series starring Scott and Dean. Forget making it a pilot for a new series. I really couldn't care less if they made a new series, as long as Sam makes it home in the end and is reunited with Donna and Al and all the rest of the PQL gang.

So, for me, I think a mini-series would be the perfect thing. It'd be longer than a two-hour TV movie, but not so long as to conflict with the stars' schedules and what-not. And sure, if they want to introduce a character who could possibly star in a new series, why not, but don't make the mini-series about making a new show; make it about Sam and Al. That's what the fans REALLY want.

I loved Quantum Leap, which was all the rage during my late teens and if they ever made a special reunion film, TV movie or whatever... they can count on my support. I often felt that QL lost its way towards the end though by revolving stories around famous people... Marilyn Monroe, Lee Harvey Oswald and so on. The show worked best with intimate changes made... instead of claiming to have saved Jackie Kennedy's life or the like. Focusing leaps around characters from ordinary backgrounds, those considered to lived less significant lives in the grand scheme of things, was central to the show's success.

I imagine any comeback would have to sacrifice that to make any impact in our celebrity obsessed culture. Would we really want Sam trying to save John Lennon in December 1980?

Well, I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to say... I'll just say, then, that there were HUGE continuity issues, some fairly out-of-character bits (IMHO), and it felt too much like simply setting up a new series rather than giving the fans a reunion of Sam and Al, which is what we've ever really wanted from a new QL.

I haven't read it in a while, so don't remember much more beyond what I *didn't* like about it.

Basically, a script co-written by Don and Deborah would be LIGHTYEARS better than the script by Callaway.

Isn't that the one where it was Sam's daughter Leaping off in the hope of finding him somewhere in the past? IIRC it was a Sci Fi Channel pilot for a reimagined series, rather than a movie.

Yeah, that's basically the premise, except that it completely and totally ignored the established canon of the series. If it were a complete reboot of QL, that'd be one thing, but this script was supposed to be a *continuation* of the series into a new series, and therefore the ignorance and re-writing of canon was completely unacceptable.
