Correct me if im wrong

I watched TOS, TNG,Enterprise. I also watched two season of Voyager but i gave up because i couldnt resist its pain anymore. Now i have just started to watched DS9 and from the beginning i thought it was terrible thing even worse than Voyager. Now im asking you am i only person like this? I mean after watching great captains like Picard and Kirk i started to think that how people like Sisko get prometed and become captain? Do you also think like this?

Well the first two seasons of DSN are weaker than later seasons, but remember how dire S1-2 of TNG were.

As for Captain's I'd take Sisko over Janeway, Janeway was far too inconsistant. Thoough I do agree Kirk and Picard where the better Captain's as written.

I'm not that fond of seaons 1 and 2 of DS9, but it establishes itself, takes a more mature and serialised approach to the storytelling, stepping away from the tedious and overdone 'planet of the week' format.

This results in the most developed, interesting and fully realised characters in all of Trek, and, imho, by far and away the best Trek series.

Stick with it.

I felt the same with ENT. All felt wrong: T´Pol trying to be more Vulcan than most Vulcans. The Enterprise theme song.... A setting that didn´t fit into a pre Kirk era.... Archer was definitely not the worst. And Shran was good, as was the beagle Porthos. But I watched only few episodes. It´s not unusual to dislike some of the shows.

Maybe, one day, you will give it a try again. I started late with DS9 and came to like it :), even Sisko. It is possible, that I start to like ENT one day. But not right now.

It's worth sticking with DS9. There are some growing pains, as with TNG, but it eventually grows into a complex and intricate saga full of fascinating characters.

And Sisko becomes a much more compelling character after he shaves his head--and the the writers get the hang of writing for Avery Brooks.

I´m going to watch the ENT Mirror Universe episodes to complete my MU knowledge.

DS9 starts to get interesting with the last episode of season 2, when the Dominion is introduced.

VOY: Some people are still uncomfortable with a female Captain like Janeway and reject her because of her gender. Seven of Nine is worth a look or two.

If some characters of the shows are bland or not is a matter of personal taste. Sometimes you don´t warm to them like I do with most of the ENT characters.

The only time one is ever wrong about not liking an aspect of Trek is when one tries to convince everyone else that everyone else is wrong for liking the Trek that they couldn't (for whatever reason) stomach.

I'll never tell someone they're wrong for disliking an aspect of Star Trek, as long as they don't try to tell me that I cannot possibly love Star Trek because that iteration doesn't sit well with that person.

Hi,

Initially (1994) Sisko really rubbed me the wrong way, also it didn't seem like star trek, because they weren't exploring space. Result: I didn't watch it for 10 years.

But I persisted, like reading a slow book. And now it's my favourite series and Sisko my favourite captain.

Watch with 1/2 your attention and multitask if you must.
But...

D o n ' t g i v e u p k e e p o n w a t c h i n g!!

PS. "Just Me" is a perfume by Paris Hilton, it's not bad :vulcan:

DS9 is easily the best of the spin-off series, and second only to TOS itself, in my opinion. The first season or two are uneven...but it's well worth getting through them to establish the background and set up for what is to come.

Trust me, stick with it.

And even early on there are some gems. Check out "Duet" at least. That's probably the best of the early eps--and gives you a feel for how the show will evolve.

I had the same reaction when I first watched DS9--I didn't get it--it was on a station where nobody went anywhere.

Now I can't imagine watching a Trek show on some pent-up starship. DS9 is lot more free and open with it's dialog and characters.

The first two seasons were kind of imitating the TNG style before it came into its own, which is why it seems kind of slow, IMO.

But even then it was still experimenting with being different.

Duet is a good example. It's one of those "slow" episodes but it's really intense. Listen to the dialog. What comes out that Cardassian's mouth is unbelievable.

And the ending scene is hard hitting for a Trek episode.

I think DS9 is a lot more re-watchable than TNG. TNG is kind of limited by its plot/alien of the week style and the crew had somewhat limited personalities in a way. (IMO)

I've noticed a lot of fans tend to have similar views on DS9.

I didn't like DS9 the first time I watched through it but when I came back to it later I loved it.

What do you want from Trek that you think DS9 is terrible? Storywise it's pretty similar to TNG.

When I think of "Deep Space Nine" images that come to my head are- the Defiant, the Dominion, Worf, bald Sisko, Odo with a collared uniform, the Jem'Hadar, etc etc

Basically Season 3-7. It's my favourite Trek show, but it says a lot that I never bothered buying seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. There are some excellent episodes mind you, but just for me it's all about the later seasons.

That's why I feel bad for ENT and the rep it gets. Yeah seasons 1 & 2 have some duff episodes, but I love s3 & 4. And had it lasted for 7 seasons, I think like DS9 & TNG, most of us would just gloss over those "less-than-amazing" years.

But still, DS9 1 & 2 are more than watchable. I never really get people who say they love certain series but can't watch others. I can understand maybe not been able to get into TOS because of the 60s vibe, but modern Trek from TNG-ENT is all the same thing basically. It's all just Star Trek

I agree. Despite Kiras aversion for Cardassians she doesn´t support the murder of someone who was killed just because of being Cardassian. This episode shows that Kira had her fill of killing, especially when it´s not necessary.

DS9 started off weak, trying too hard to follow the TOS/TNG format but on a station, but once they realised that just wasn't the basis of the show and they found their true path the series evolved into something truly wonderful. I would take the weakest episode of DS9 over the best VOY had to offer any day of the week.

And even early on there are some gems. Check out "Duet" at least. That's probably the best of the early eps--and gives you a feel for how the show will evolve.
"Duet" is one of the all time best episodes of Trek there ever has been. I liked Kira from "Emissary", but this was the episode that made me fall in love with her.

I endorse this comment.

And there are a lot of gems in the first two seasons of DS9. Duet has been rightly cited, but what of In the Hands of the Prophets or Necessary Evil? Even Whispers, despite its obvious homages to Phillip K. Dick?

I'll also stick up for the last third of the second season of DS9, from around Blood Oath onwards. The Wire, Crossover, The Maquis. Even The Collaborator is - I think - sorely underrated.

I think, episode-by-episode, the second season is about as strong as the third, if not slightly stronger. But the fourth season kicks up a whole notch. Or several.

While the first two seasons of DS9 are not uniformally fantastic, I think they're stronger than the first two of TNG and ENT (and, on average, VOY).

.

Oh, yeah, I remember "Necessary Evil" being a good one. As I recall, it had a nice noirish feel and no easy answers when it came to the thorny moral ambiguities involved.

Hmm. It dawns on me that, at least early on, the good eps tend to focus on Kira, perhaps because she was the most conflicted character?

DS9 is worth another shot. There are many great episodes, and Sisko is not always the main character.
Far beyond the stars for instance: Sisko as black SciFi writer having difficulties to sell his stories. Many guest stars without prosthetics...... This episode explains, why Sisko is later skeptical about Vic´s 60ies Vegas where blacks still had to fight for their rights.

Or Treachery, Faith and the Great River: Weyoun had to deal with his defective self. Great interaction with Odo.

I guess, I mentioned it before, but I started to read the DS9 novels and the characters grew dear to my heart, so I bought the DVDs.
