News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

Also I just read an article from the German science magazine Spektrum, hypothesising that the second wave comes not only on the heels of cold weather driving people inside, but also because the relieving numbers of the summer gave a false sense of normalcy and people forgot that it's not just about masks, that the more people you are in contact with, the higher the risk of infection.

Yes, that's exactly it. It's also important to note that during the summer, it was possible to be more socially distant due to having more space around us, which also gave us more of a relaxed feeling, but also installed a sense of security in us that we shouldn't take for granted.

Lockdowns, masks, yeeesh

When will you sheeple wake up
Take that Karen. :p

Does anyone know any anti-maskers? There's at least one person I know, and one of her relatives recently tested positive for COVID, and she's been in contact with someone who's been in contact with that relative, but get this -- she apparently doesn't believe in getting tested either! WTF? I really don't understand the mentality behind that. Especially since she has a family. They all could have it and she doesn't want any of them to get tested?!?!?!?!?!

Some folks feel better sticking their heads in the sand vs acknowledging reality.

My anti-masker friend, she seems to get sick a lot from everything under the sun and now one of her kids is acting the same way. But that's all real and COVID is fake?!?!?!?

My area's had a worrysome spike of about 40 or so cases in the last week, which is uncharacteristic of our area where we've normally had up to 5 cases at a time. That's a hell of a lot of change for an area that has generally done pretty good at keeping out of trouble.

^^^It is always the minority who impact on the majority, same here in Glasgow as a few months ago we actually had the infection rate down in single figures with no deaths, but low and behold the government decided to treat everyone like adults, and now we are in lockdown teir 4 with rising infection rates and sadly increasing deaths, and why you ask, well for a nice example just look at the pubs across Scotland a few weeks ago, jam packed like sardines watching the football as normal........i just can't wrap my head around the stupidity of some, i really can't.

I finally got the app working on my phone. Now I’ll know if there are any dirty people near me. :)

my uncle caught Corona in his nursery home. Surprisingly, he recovered rather well on the ICU last weekend. But the instant he was able to speak he insisted in everything getting switched off. He even refuses food. He's determined do die. Frustrating and at the same time annoying for the family. But then he was always only happy when he could annoy people.
The ICU staff said they could kill him for wanting to die. I can well understand them. It's bad enough to lose a patient because you can't help them. But losing one when you'd be able to rescue him is utterly devastating.

I did! :p I made Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas masks. I also bought a little material to make Mardi Gras masks. I've made a lot of masks in solids and fun prints for us because I've asked my family to change masks mid-shift while out at work, so we need enough that I don't have to wash laundry every evening just for masks. I figure that since we need to wear them, we should have something that we want to wear.

This quarantine could easily destroy more people than it saves.
- Vastly increased depression level and intensity.
- Pervasive isolation and loneliness.
- Increased suicide rate. Increased suicidal tendencies.
- Millions of children's education compromised. If you think you can Zoom school a kindergartner or first grader, you're not an educator.
- Kids with compromised social skills. I know from experience how destructive that can be.
- Millions of jobs lost. Some won't come back.
- Devastation of the strongest economy in American history.
- Devastation of our culture: art, libraries, plays, state fairs, Christmas events, all gone.
- Millions of people with no health care, due to no money or no work. You think they're going to PAY for care? Instead, they will skip those $300 doctor and dentist visits.
- Vastly increased obesity and diabetes rates due to more time at home and inability to work out.
- Increased drug addiction and alcoholism.
- Increased domestic violence due to people being trapped at home.
- Thousands of other people homeless due to lost work.

All this for a bug that an 85 year old has a 90%+ chance of defeating.

No comment, is the best that I can genially respond with.

Say what you want. I speak from personal experience.
- I lost 35 pounds before this began. Most of it is back.
- I am dangerously depressed and have considered suicide more than once.
- My job is gone, and will not return for months, if ever. And it was the first full time job I managed to hold for more than 18 months.
- I am skipping a scheduled appointment because I can't pay for it.
- I was a part of the Northwest's artistic and musical culture. I'm not now. Right now, everything that gave my life meaning or purpose is a casualty of the lockdown.
- And without help from my family, I would have moved into my car months ago.
- And don't tell me to seek professional help. I can't afford it, and it never works for me anyway.

Nearly all of the people we've lost to Covid19 already had a foot in the grave from other causes. 40% were in nursing homes or similar facilities. Is prolonging one life by a few months worth destroying 10 others, or 20, or 50 in the process? You're entitled to your opinion in that regard... but I will also have mine.

COVID also has been claiming lives of younger people without any apparent underlying conditions. Hospitals in the mid-west are at capacity with the number of cases growing.

How about doing a streaming concert? Granted, it's not the same as doing it in person, but it is still a chance to connect. Create a virtual tip jar.
