What determines our response to the virus are gradually no longer the facts in themselves, but the story that is constructed about the facts. From mouth mask to muzzle. Hundreds of 'forgotten' deaths in residential care centers, and in the dramatic top three of the world in terms of deaths per million inhabitants. Ministers of Health and of Budget who have had 63 million face masks destroyed to turn the warehouses into an asylum center and unable to order new ones would be shamed in a banana republic. Here it is believed that in crisis situations the captains should be left at the helm. Would people have thought that way on the Titanic?

I know you're providing a translation of the original article, but due to copyright concerns, we should still stick with the usual procedure of only quoting a paragraph or two from an article. Since the link is included, people could then translate it on their own.

Due to the global lockdown, crime has gone down worldwide.

I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but in Canada it seems to be that the overall crime rate is down, but things like commercial break-ins, auto thefts, and domestic abuse are up significantly.

Pink, a musician whose work I enjoy, recently had a video chat about dealing with the virus (her 3-year old son was infected first and she subsequently caught it, but the good news is they're managing so far) with Ellen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone who has to deal with the disease on a personal level.

This is indeed bad news. The virus is reinfecting folks who fought it off in the first place.

Maybe the virus has mutated into a new strain.
Not necessarily. From the article you posted:
Officials are still investigating the cause of the apparent relapses. But Jeong Eun-kyeong, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), has said the virus may have been reactivated rather than the patients being re-infected.

Other experts said faulty tests may be playing a role, or remnants of the virus may still be in patients' systems but not be infectious or of danger to the host or others.

Yeah, let's not jump to the conclusion that a virulent new strain has mutated. Until and unless that actually happens let's not. It's a good way to stoke an outbreak of panic in an already nervous population walking on eggshells. :( Let's try to keep our heads screwed on.

Most likely virus still in their system. Are there reports of these people actually getting sick again?

Doctors across the world are facing difficulty in treating the novel coronavirus. Covid-19 is a new disease and even using ventilators for serious cases offers it's own problems.

A light-hearted take on the current situation that many of us are facing.

Nobody bounces back easily from nearly dying. That which does not kill us doesn't only make us stronger. Sometimes it can bust us up pretty bad, sometimes permanently. Some of these survivors may never breath the same again, because the respiratory damage can leave scarring on the lungs. Even if you live, you ain't getting off easy, if you end up in the ICU, & being out of it, for a while, is pretty standard for that kind of trauma

The good news is that 459 000 people have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far.

That we know of. The number of cases is 10-20 times higher than that.

Trump is going to release his plan for reopening everything as the asshole governors of MI and NY become even crazier with more powers like making everyone wear masks in public. I agree with that, but we are dangerously close to abuse of powers from everyone.

Also I live near the vets home in Massachusetts that now has 47 deaths, 38 from covid. (there were only like 250 people living there, that's 1/5th the population!) But there is a Jewish nursing home also near by that I think has 20ish deaths. Someone tried blowing it up today.

And someone I used to be close with went full out nuts when I called out his bitching over unemployment check. I pointed out he needed to get off his high horse being a shitless waiter who makes much more money not working than grocery store employees risking their lives and working full time. The moral is don't put up with bullshit. Don't contact your exes because you are lonely. Call a hotline, call anyone, a stranger is better than a toxic waste of an ex.
