Coolest or most unique species in the novel verse?

I sorely apologize I haven't been able to read any Trek novels but for anyone who doesn't mind the act of spoiling please tell me-what are the most interesting/unique/cool/mysterious alien species in the novel verse?

The Hamalki- silicon based arachnoids (crystal spider) introduced in the TOS novel Wounded Sky and seen again in another TOS novel Spock's World.
I was thinking Hamalki, though really Duane excels at aliens with interesting biologies and epistemologies in general. Doctor's Orders, Dark Mirror, and Intellivore are also good for this.

The Three-Minute Universe has some really cool aliens, and Dreams of the Raven some really spooky ones.

Since the Hamalki were taken before I'd even thought of them,
"All twelve Sulamid sexes claimed to be male. Especially those who bore the children" -- Diane Duane

Oh, yes, and Barbara Hambly gave us the Drelb, in Ishmael. And going back to the Bantam era, Kathleen Sky gave us a whole bunch of interesting sentient species in Death's Angel.

I've thought of another one from the older Trek novels (Time for Yesterday). I think the species was called Marishal. The individual they encountered was named D'Berahan.

The species was completely telepathic, they did not have any auditory or verbal abilities. They were a marsupial type race that had 3 genders, male, female and carrier. I think the carrier gave birth to them after receiving the embryos from the other 2 genders. After they were born they would stay in the pouch and nurse. They were a bit more developed than kangaroos are at birth. D'Berahan was a carrier.

I also liked the cat-like beings from Uhura's Song.

The Syrath are interesting, although we have only met one individual and he only got one book where he had any kind of focus (that is Titan's Over a Torrent Sea by CLB.)

.

I'm agreeing with a lot of the species mentioned already. I'd like to add the Choblik to this. I find them quite interesting.

Another one for me, are the Cardassian as seen in the novelverse. I love how more layers to their society have been added in the novels, making them a far more complex race than what we saw on the shows.

It's a good thing about the novels that they can add layers to the Trek races who often seem so one dimensional on the screen.

The unseen makers of the Dyson Sphere.

The builders of the Guardian of Forever--which actually resembles the maw of the Doomsday Machine a bit...
