...I was going to also mention Lost in Space, but we already have that - we call it Voyager....

No we don't. Lost in Space and Star Trek: Voyager are two totally different shows about two totally different sets of fictional characters who get lost in space in two totally different fictional universes.

Saying that two different stories are the same because they have strongly similar plots is like saying that Fort Apache (1948) and The Glory Guys (1965) are the same story because large parts of their plots are based on the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Or, for another example, it is like saying that Fort Apache (1948) is actually Wee Willie Winkie (1937) because of the similarities between the two movies.

It is lke saying that The Wizard of Mars (1965) is The Wizard of Oz (1939).

It is like saying that Sergeants 3 (1962) is Gunga Din (1939).

It is like saying that Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) is The Magnificent Seven (1960), or that The Magnificent Seven (1960) is Seven Samurai (1954).

And so on.

Lost in Space?

I had this crossover fantasy once in which the Borg are about to eat the Enterprise-D for lunch (the scene from "Q Who" but with no Q in it), and I come along in the Jupiter 2 and destroy the Borg cube with one shot. And the TNG crew are flabbergasted, and I say "It was nothing! Glad to help." I never did get a job writing for television.

When I was a kid, I had all the Star Trek AMT models, and I used to play with them like toys. I also had a Sea View model which I used as an alien ship. My Enterprise and my Sea View had some mighty ship to ship battles in space, let me tell you.

You know, I was never able to find the Seaview model kit. I was looking for it in every model shop I could reach through my teens and early adulthood and none of them ever had it.

I DID find the flying sub kit though. It was a nice one, you could lift the top off to see the detailed interior which included a small engine room at the stern behind the flight deck which was never seen on the show.

I also had a model of the battlestar Galactica. Next to the TOS Enterprise, I always thought the Galactica was the coolest looking ship and I always hated how they got the front portion of the ship wrong on the model.

I didn't see the Seaview in stores either. I probably missed the Galactica model because I had aged out of shopping for kits by then. But I was a rabid fan of the show.
