I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with that weird dust we see in the trailers. Like, it causes spacial anomalies or some such thing.
Anywho, that looks like a terrible way to die.
Squished by subspace mushrooms. Makes the Pegasus phased cloak accident look like a walk in the park. Or deck plating, as it were.
Nah, pretty sure those are bodies of crew left on the Shenzhou that have been mauled by that beast/dog thing running around the ship that we saw in the season preview. Maybe multiple were left on the ship by the Klingons once the crews of the ships evacuated. Impossible to know for sure since we have no idea how they even got off the Shenzhou following the battle and T'kumva's death prior to Burnhams rather dark court martial. Either way a rather gruesome scene and happy looking forward to what happened either way.
Didn't the crew of Shenzhou evacuate using escape pods? I could have sworn I saw those launch from the ship.

I'm sure dead crew were left behind. We have no idea how many corpses were left on the ship following the battle which could explain why they go to recover the dead/investigate the area further for Klingon activity. Hence why I think that those animals are just munching on the corpses of dead crew on the ship.

The one photo where Lorca is looking at Burnham, right next to the Tribble there looks like the TOS record tapes and a small viewer with the slot like TOS would have for those tapes!
