Contemporary Anime/Manga in the vein of Gundam/Macross?

Sounds like the premise of Strawberry Eggs, only the crossdresser was a gym teacher and he did it only because there were no jobs around for his field and he needed money to live. But yes...creepy expecially because he made a real good looking woman.
I guess crossdressing is another major theme in anime?

While cross dressing is common, the thing that really creeped me out about Otoboku is that I think the creators sometimes forgot the main character was a dude dressing like a woman. There were moments when those boobs looked a little too real if you get what im saying lol
When they kept dressing up Hayate in dresses, was that just a parody of the concept or something specific?
I suppose the only one I'm familiar with because it's old, although it's more gender "transformation" than crossdressing, is Ranma 1/2.
On another tangent, is it me or do the dubs of anime sound off for some reason? I find that the dialog "pops" far too much compared to Japanese tracks and I'm just wondering if that's because they just can't get the mix right when they go back and re-record dialog.
I can't really explain it other than I find that the Japanese tracks sound like a "part" of the show where was English tracks sound like they're running "on top" of the show.

it really depends on the show. Full Metal Panic, Ghost in the Shell, and Black Lagoon are three shows where the English dialogue sounds extremly natural. In the case of Black Lagoon and FMP, I would say that the English is much superior to the Japanese This came as a surprise to me, since FMP and Black Lagoon were both very well done in Japanese (though Black Lagoon did have some very bad engrish in the Japanese version).

I've never seen School Rumble in English and by all accounts, I don't want to.
The problem with a show like school rumble is that the humor is so culture based that it really just cant work in any language other than Japanese. On top of that, the timing and delivery is just so crucial to school rumbles humor that it just couldn't be done. I imagine Hayate having a similar problem if/when it comes to the US
Yup. Especially stuff like the ***dam type jokes. I can't help but think they'll find a way to mess those up.

I was actually thinking about the technical aspects.
Although, over localization can end up being a problem too. On the game end, people get so anal about the localization of games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy that they make fan translations that are nearly incomprehensible.

Oh, I like the addition of swearing though in dubs when it's appropriate, especially since Japanese has no real equivalent for expletives. Of course the right words have to be used for the right situations so that the same effect is maintained, but since we have stronger words to use, I don't mind if they use them. It has to be the right kind of series, however. I don't think you can have series like Blue Gender, Elfen Lied, Black Lagoon, Hallsing, or Claymore without the addition of "colorful metaphors", it just wouldn't feel right.
Random question #45: Anyone ever watch "Slam Dunk"? I kind of want to get into it again, because I remember starting it eons ago... but at 100 episodes, it seems to be an investment.
I don't like Basketball (or any sports really aside from martial arts) so watching it never really crossed my mind. Closest I've come to a sports anime was Suzuka which relates to Track and Field, IGPX which is a mech racing anime, or Hikaru no Go which is about playing a Chess-like strategic board game called Go.
I don't recall ever finishing the last two either personally, although I wouldn't mind eventually.

Yeah, I can't really remember anything about it other than I watched a few episodes of it before I sort of got out of the medium way back when.
I just read about how he drew the ending on chalkboards at an abandoned school 10 years after the manga ended and that felt artsy enough that I wonder if I should watch the show again.
