Constantine - Season 1

"Arrow" executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that “there’s a lot of desire on everyone’s part” to add Constantine to the shared DC TV universe.

It would be pretty cool if they could make it happen somehow.

I'm not sure The CW would be the best place for Constantine. The ideal home would be someplace like Netflix where it could go even darker and more adult than it was able to go on NBC. If it were integrated into the CW DC universe, I feel that would require it to be a little lighter and younger-skewing, which might not be the best direction for it.

Then again, we've already got a fair difference in tone between the gritty Arrow and the more fun and upbeat The Flash, so maybe there's room for a much darker Constantine in the same universe. The BBC managed to fit Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures into the same universe, though it was a very awkward fit at times.

Daredevil is several shades darker than AOS or the MCU films.

^Yes, there is that. Then again, Daredevil's on Netflix, so it's free to have a different tone than a show on ABC would have. I'm not sure the same tonal variation would be feasible within the bounds of a single network.

I think what he meant was, you could have Constantine on Netflix, or HBO, or whatever, and still be set in the DCW-verse (yeah, I'm sticking with that).

^
best case scenario. The negotiations for something like that to happen would probably be a nightmare, though.

Supernatural is on the CW, right? At its best, Supernatural has a very dark tone and can be quite graphic at times. The CW also doesn't shy away from homosexual relationships, questioning religion, or morally ambiguous protagonists. Maybe it is a good fit?

I'll have to take your word for it. I never was able to get into Supernatural. It seems like fun from what I hear about it, and I've caught a very few of the more comedic episodes (including two of the Felicia Day ones), but I've never found the lead actors or the premise at all interesting.

And yeah, between Captain Singh on The Flash and Nyssa and Sarah on Arrow, I'd say The CW is pretty LGB-friendly. And didn't the lead character on The 100 turn out to be bisexual? I'd stopped watching by that point, but I read something about it.

There is also a gay couple on The Originals. Supernatural was best Seasons 3-5 (but you need to see the horrible Season 1 and mediocre Season 2 for the back story). Season 5 ends with a great series finale. Watch that and no more!

Season two revealed that Clarke was bi-sexual.

I'm pretty sure this show is dead.

The actors contracts for this show ends in June, and they will be moving on to something else by then. You can't expect any of the actors to wait months with no jobs hoping a show will get renewed, when they should be looking for work somewhere else.

Maybe we can at least get occasional guest appearances by Constantine, Zed, etc. on the CW shows, maybe advance/resolve some of the planned story arcs as subplots on Arrow or whatever.

I don't think it would have to much trouble on The CW. The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and The 100 have all gone to some really dark places during their runs.

^Yes, others have already pointed that out to me.

So far, though, it isn't looking like The CW is biting as far as a series pickup is concerned, and the Arrow producers can't do anything with the character as long as the show's still being shopped elsewhere. But it sounds like if the show doesn't get picked up, the characters may well guest star on Arrow.

It would be interesting to see how they handle magic on Arrow and Flash.

^We've already seen hints of magic, with the Lazarus Pit. And Oliver mentioned earlier this season that he's seen things that defy explanation. Maybe that'll come into play in the flashbacks next season.

I hadn't thought of the Lazarus Pit as magic, but I guess it would be. Wasn't the line about things that defy explanation a reference to the Mirakuru?

Personally I liked the way the DCAU accounted for it as being the alien physics of another universe (filled with Lovecrafitan horrors, naturally) interacting with our own. A universe where thought and dreams are as powerful and reality shaping as gravity, electromagnetism and whatever is going on with dark matter are in our universe. Also a nice tie-in was that the Thanagarians developed Nth metal technology specifically to disrupt magical energies. With Hawkgirl set to appear I wonder if they'll re-use that concept.

Mind you, I have no idea how the Olympians and everything that goes with it fits into any of that though. ;)
