Cool story, bro.
Trek is a universe where you can stick your soul into your best frenemy's head, after which he can carry it around for a week or two until a high priestess sticks it back into your newly reborn body. There were magical psi powers in the first two episodes. A certain amount of mysticism and unexplained phenomena are baked in.
I thought the trailer was spectacular. What a great time to be a Star Trek fan.
I'm so dismayed that there are actually people who are concerned about the lighting level on the sets, the costumes, the visual connectivity to a show made in the 60's, and the main character's hair style. I can't imagine what it would be like to go through life as a passionate fan and let things like this bother me. It's pretty unreal.
It's clear to me that this is a high-quality production with a good cast and a lot of potential.
I think the thing that hit me hardest is that it (MUCH to my surprise) FELT like Star Trek. The dialogue had that Trekkiness to it that, quite frankly, I was not expecting. I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing right now...but it felt good.
I'm already signed up for CBSAA.
Can't wait to have the excitement and anticipation build. This is a special time. Imagine how cool it would be if we could enjoy it for what it is?

The Good: So far it looks great. Very cinematic. I like the uniforms. It's along the line of the ENT Uniforms and Kirk's landing party (?) uniform in Beyond but seems more futuristic than either of those two while still looking practical. Michael Burnham seems like a human version of Saavik, who was a (non-canonically) half-Romulan raised by Vulcans.
I might as well get this part out of the way: Unless I see something in the show that indicates otherwise, I'm considering it a Third Timeline that might have similarities to the other two. This is 10 years before a version of TOS. I'm fine with that.
The Bad: I wish we knew something about the basic premise. By this point in their development, we already knew what DS9, VOY, and ENT were about.
And the Ugly: The Klingons. Ummm. Are these just the Klingons on the ancient ship? Or how the Klingons will look in the series in general? No, it's not a deal-breaker, but yeah... The design sketches I've seen of the ship are nice though. Very elaborate and different from what we've seen before, but still Klingon.

This has been bothering me for a while.
Yeah, thought so, too. That the show doesn't have an easily discernible “premise” at this point, is a plus in my book. I'm looking forward so much to watch the story unfold.The love of god was forsaken long ago in any fans mind when we were told to grow up and get a life.
Most of us wish life was a little bit more hopeful than we are being led to believe.
Hope will always entail Discovery.
This show looks amazing visually. As a fan of the 3 TNG series, I'm not a huge fan of the prequel route, but I'm definitely looking forward to the first episode.
Well, there we are. "Move out of your parents' basement and grow the Hell up! It's just a TV show, damnit, it's just a TV show!" "Are you saying then that we should pay more attention to the movies?" "NO!!!! That's not what I'm saying at all!"
On a more serious note, not to go in a tangent, but -- what the heck, why not? -- with how chaotic everything seems, especially looking at the news -- I try to make the best of what I can control and make my own opportunities in life, especially if I don't see any popping up immediately in front of me. Or see what I can do, as a citizen, amidst all the chaos. I try to be proactive.
I hope Discovery touches upon this. The future looks bleak, but we can take our own steps to change things for the better.
He may be knowledgeable about Trek, but I find him to be even more annoyingly enthusiastic as a host than Chris Hardwick. Make it Wheaton, please.
It's the old continuity but with new visuals for the modern audience.
