The haircuts (esp Kirk) really reflect the real-life change in men's hair from early to late '60s.

I don't know, most of the original episode scores were written in the first season (yes, there were a few new ones in the second and third seasons, but they recycled A LOT of scores throughout the run of the series it seems.)
Yeah, this has been coming up on other threads -- the new music for S3 was more strings-oriented and melodic imho.
I don't know where you guys are getting the idea it was eye shadow. The dark area under Spock's eyebrows is from the razor stubble from Leonard Nimoy's eyebrows.
I just noticed yesterday while checking our blu-ray Season three eps that by Wink of an Eye, he was looking quite like the "modern" Spock. His ears and hair are evolved, so to speak.

Also, to the OP, Spocks have to shave their eyebrows, so part of the dark area might be dark hair follicles or stubble. There was a pointed discussion between Quinto and Nimoy about how that shakes out over time; Quinto has very thick hair and brows, and Nimoy told him that shaving them off frequently does tend to thin them out.

Maybe they could have just covered his natural eyebrows with makeup and no one would have noticed. Like Cesar Romero's mustache when he played the Joker.
He shaved it off once, for one role, and vowed never to shave it off again.

The bluish makeup covers the entire upper lid area, from the bottom of the brow to the top of the lid.

I was suprised when I found out he was on Mission Impossible. Never registered with me that it was Sam Elliot playing "Doug Robert".Well, lucky for him The Joker wears white makeup.
Come to think of it, I know two other guys who look very strange without moustaches: Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott.
On the eye shadow, keep in mind that most TV sets had lower resolution then, so it might not have been as clear that he was wearing it. It was probably done to make his eyes look more hooded or something.
