Watched Ent: Daedelius where Trip constantly argues and back talks to Archer before finally being threatened w/insubordination.

Sisko seems to be more like Picard and tolerate very little back talk. That line to Bashir, "as you WERE doctor" keeps running through my head.

Ezri once told Sisko in one episode, that Worf was intimidated by him! Worf, of all people, the one who loves Klingon discilpline.

He called Dax's bluff a lot too.

Although Riker was a first officer, he didn't seem to tolerate too much back talk, at least with Shelby, Barcley, sometimes Worf, and some others.

Only if a person were close with him, Troi, Geordi, etc..

That's because the Enterprise-D crew were portrayed as near perfect and ridiculously so. Oh wait. Someone did dare to do something that deliberately pissed off Picard. Her name was Ro Lauren.

Sisko had to put up with a lot of back talk from non-SF people, the prime examples being talked about here are Kira and Odo, Dax was his long time friend so she tried it and got away with it sometimes. Picard had an all SF crew, and a tip-top crew at that because the Enterprise was the Flagship.

Kirk- I think he admired Kirks never say die attitude. They where both leaders and both lived full lives. While Sisko followed the rules a bit more like Kirk he knew when to bend them. I think they are both the same because as I said they lived their lives to the full and knew when to bring out the fists.

Picard- I always found Picard a little too perfect. Anytime he had a moral dilemma he would angst about it a bit then some techno thing would come along and he would get to have his cake and eat it too. Then he would give a condesending speech how humans would be lowly like unevolved alien of the week but they got better. That got old real fast.
That being said I always thought that Picard represented the dream and Sisko defended the reality.
You want someone to represent the best and brightest of the Federation you got Picard.
You want someone to keep the Federation alive by fighting in the trenches and relying on any and all means you got Sisko.

Janeway.
She got her crew lost and a few of them killed in the Delta quadrandt. Sisko whould have gotten them home sooner. Sisko was very goal oriented , you did not want to get between Sisko and his target.

I mean so many ways to describe Captain 'Wah stop holding us back Vulcan meanies' Archer.
Bully, dumb ass, childish.
He took his Ship to seek out new life and ended up pissing off most of the new life he found. For someone who just arrived on the Galatic stage he spent most of the time passing judgement left right and centre.
Sisko was a better diplomat and commander in so many ways.

I love how Nog tries to refuse to give Sisko the Red Squad names and Sisko just starts yelling at him right away and demanding compliance.

And again when he balls out Dax and Worf after just a few seconds of them defending stabbing Kurn.

At least the Sisko doesn't discriminate: cadet or senior officer, friend or acquaintance, he doesn't tolerate any back talk crap from anyone.

Kirk was a space cowboy, plain and simple, and for the time period in which the original show aired, it was exactly the sort of thing one might expect. I always found humor to be one of Kirk's saving graces, that and his fearlessness. He never held himself above his men (and women) as though he were better than them and wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

Picard was the thinking man's captain. Diplomatic, even handed, rarely ruffled. Although I liked him, I found him a little hard to relate to. He was just a bit too bloodless for my taste.

Sisko really seemed to take the best of both worlds, action and thoughtfulness, and combine them in a way that is rare for people in positions of authority. There was never any doubt of who was in charge with this Commander, but there was also never any doubt that he genuinely cared about the people under him. He was more interested in what was right in practice rather than theory and had no problem bending the rules when the situation warranted it.

I can't give a fair assessment of Janeway. Voyager annoyed me way too much for me to be unbiased toward her, and I have never watched Enterprise.

I like ST: ENT if I can watch it and not care about continuity w/TOS-its pretty good.
So many of the things established in TOS were decimated in ENT.

Precisely why I couldn't bring myself to watch it. I can't turn off my continuity censors, and I liked TOS too much to do that to myself.
