Comic-Con's Are Great For What Ails Ya!

The Boy Who Cried Worf

Well all week I have been in a terrible, mopey, depressed, mood. Yesterday was even worse, because I wanted to go to the Long Beach Comic-Con, but I had logistical troubles and I was ready to give up going all together. My girlfriend talked me into going today though. And I got to say I am feeling pretty good.

I did an uncharacteristically non-socially anxious thing and volunteered to help out. Great move. You work half the day, and get in free the other half. Since it is the first year for the show they are pretty unorganized and the extent of any work I had to do was gather up some writers and artists for a panel and then sit throught he panel. Free admission just for that! I got to hear Mark Waid and Jeph Loeb talk about comics under the guise of working!

Where else but at a comic-con can you find yourself standing between Al Snow and Tito Santana? I really wanted to call him Chico just once, but I didn't. I think Richard Hatch nodded at me. Or gave me the eye, I am not sure which one. I saw an actual live wrestling card. I could have seen Scotty Too Hotty and Paul London wrestle but instead I went to the future of Marvel Comics panel. I saw some Playboy Playmate cleavage. I got to work a booth across from some girls wearing schoolgirl outfits.

All in all I was a pretty happy guy. Probably the only guy in the place happier was Tito Santana who got the seat right next too Playmate Audra Lynn who was showing off some major rackage. I did miss seeing Stan Lee walk by by about 30 seconds so that was kind of a bummer. Also why wasn't Chewbaca there. I thought he went to all of these.

Tomorrow I am going and hitting up the reduced price comics. So if you're in a bad mood, go to a comic convention. You won't regret it.

I'd love to go to Comic Con or Dragon Con or something. I used to go to the Sunday Funnies all the time when I was a kid, but with the exception of spending a few hours at World Con when it was in Boston, I haven't been to a convention in years. It sounds like a blast.

Day 2 wasn't as exciting. Yesterday was about pleasure, today was about business. Hitting up those cheap comic book vendors! Got 53 comics for $35. It was a good day. Saw Jenilee Harrison too which reminded that Three's Company was a looooong time ago. Volunteering almost seemed like a scam. Being Sunday it was a slow day so there was literally nothing to do. I almost felt guilty. Not quite, but almost. I'd recommend volunteering to anyone who wants to go to a con, but can't afford it. I saved 50 dollars, had a nice inside view of the show, and got a nifty red shirt out of it too.

Jenilee Harrison was there?!? At Comic Con? She was my favorite of all the Three's Company roommates. Man....

Yep, nothing like a con to lift your spirits.

Just watch out for that post-con depression. Man it can be a killer.

Yeah she was one of the signees. Other than Richard Hatch and the wrestlers there weren't many major names there, but some people here will definitely recognize due to Trek connections. Arlene Martel, Sean Kenney, Bobby Clark, Carel Struycken. Lorraine lewis from the old glam rock band Femmes Fatales was there and brought her breasts along which was a treat. Jenilee looked a little old for her age, I though, but you could still tell she had once been an ultra-cutie.

Yeah, she didn't age so well, unfortunately; I had a major crush on her back in the day.

there are never any cons up in my area
either they're too far away or they're close enough but I find out too late and can't make plans to go
