Comcast Buying NBC

Well this is interesting (but from IMDB so take it with a grain of salt).

IMDB:
Comcast, the nation’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, is in talks to buy the entertainment giant NBC-Universal from General Electric, according to knowledgeable individuals. [MORE]

Well, Comcast has denied it, but that doesn't mean the article is fiction. We'll just have to wait and see.

I would like to think that a buy-out would change things at NBC Universal, but I'm skeptical. The only certain change I can see is that all NBC Universal programming would be yanked from Hulu (given that Comcast is the parent of Hulu rival Fancast).

I see the headline now...

Comcast Buys NBC for $14.50; Stock Holders Think They Paid Too Much"

:)

Sounds like something to add to my thread "Is Comcast going to Implode?"

Now, if Comcast gets NBC, will i still have to pay $0.99 to see NBC shows on demand (not that i do anyway...i might if it were $0.25)

Hope it doesn't happen. Wouldn't there be a problem with monopolies? Then again, the way Comcast orders (or disorders) its channels, i probably wouldn't notice.

I hate Comcast, so it would be a shame if they actually followed through with the deal. NBC Universal needs some new management and guidance, but they won't get any from the morons running Comcast.

They might have to come to an arrangement where the media division is autonomous from the telecommunications business to get it past regulated. I could see some good things though with Versus, the Golf channel, and the Comcast Sportsnet channels aligning themselves with NBC sports and Versus taking that next step into a true ESPN competitor.

I wonder if this means there will now be Comcast ads at every commercial break on NBC Universal channels.

Isn't that already happening? The number of commericals i see for Comcast, even though i already have it, actually nudges me to drop it (or at least 1 service).

Is there a way for digital cable to "customize" ads like Google...getting things i would actually be interested in?

Now it appears to be happening.. But not 100% ownership, just controlling interest.

Look here.

Is this only NBC or all of NBC's sister channels?

Also Zucker the Dumb Fucker will finally be fired!?! Comcast is already smarter than GE!

It's NBC/Universal. NBC, the cable channels, Universal Studios, and the Universal theme parks.
