Spoilers Combined Star Trek SDCC Coverage thread (potential Disco S2 spoilers)

Well, I don't like it and think its unnecessary.
Think of it this way. PIC is definitely a sequel to TNG, it owns it's existence to TNG. So they are going to have some elements (highly popular at that) from that era to start for sure.
But I guarantee you, Borg is not the main plot of the whole PIC show. Once they kick off the show and get the Borg subplot out of the way, we'll see what PIC is really all about.

I think we should have full context and story before dismissing it completely.

I mean for all we know there's no 'real' Borg at all, just liberated drones and dead cubes.

Forcing Picard to revisit the Borg is cruel. We had the sequel to the Borg. It was all wrapped for the story. It feels unnecessary and mean spirited.

Universe is not all roses and dandelions, sometimes it is cruel.
But you should see the glee on Picard's face when he says "Engage"
It's pretty clear from the trailer he misses being in space. If it takes Borg to get him into space and on another starship, I think Picard is ok with that.

No, the universe is not all roses and dandelions. Did I claim that? No, I did not.

But, when writing a story about an iconic character it strikes me as highly insensitive, at best, to be like, "Here, let's revisit one of your most traumatic experiences." It also feels like very much like a nostalgia check list. None of which inspires me for good story telling, or even treating Picard in a way that acknowledges his past struggles with any sort of seriousness.

Sorry, it comes across as highly mean spirited by the writers to be like "Hey, Picard hasn't seen the Borg in a while. He should say 'Hi' to his old friends."

I'm glad everyone is excited for the Borg. I'm not.

Are you still going to watch it though? For all you know you could be wrong.

PCD from day 1 has been a sequel to TNG - it brings back the central character played by the same actor as in all 178 episodes, 4 movies and 10 video games.

It's as much of a sequel to TNG as the four movies were - plot threads from the show and Nemesis are followed on from.

it looks like there at least three internal conflicts Picard is dealing with (that trailer had A LOT to unpack - my brain is still trying to deal with it) the death of Data; destruction of Romulus and now this Borg thing (during/straight after the destruction? Somewhat connected?) - it looks like someone has locked up a load of ex-Borg in fear of them assimilating everyone again

Alright, been seeing a lot of needless hostility in these threads in dealing with posters of differing opinions...particularly on the subject of Discovery. Let's dial it back a bit.

Publicly accusing another poster of being a troll is a particular no-no. I'll let it slide this time.
My bad ...
Apologies all around.
I was mostly attempting to be funny rather than snarky.

He's a fictional character. Putting him through shit is what he's there for.

I was on record as being of the "Anything but the damn Borg again!" camp, but now that I've seen the trailer, my attitude is...okay, they're going there, let's see what they do with it.
