Colony Season 2 Discussion Thread

Lol for the Nolan aimed for the moon joke.

Very interesting to hear about a traitor Rap. Also, nice (though unsurprising) little twist to have their outside contact get offed, so they're really blind ouside the walls.

Though I guess now that we know both Will and Broussard have diplomatic immunity (dronomatic immunity?), they might find it easier to escape the walls.

So the big questions are:
-will Snyder figure out that he needs to get out of the block too?
-will Maddie magically run into her sister or Bram so she can also escape the block?

Hmm, now that I think about it, Carl Weathers escaped the block, right? Will might at least try to go to his cabin if they're not sure where to go outside the block.

Okay, back to the traitor Rap. Why does he need a new gauntlet to control the drones? Didn't he have one of his own? Sounds fishy.

Maybe the traitor rap had to ditch his armor to avoid being tracked. Or to go incognito? (they look human?)

What the Raps look like is largely irrelevant, unless they can pass for human, which would be incredibly lame.

My question to the pilot would have been, "What are the Raps' ultimate goals? What is their end-game to the invasion and occupation?"

I get they were pressed for time, but they couldn't have asked that? :scream:

^ Those are all good questions, including the what do they look like question. That's a very human question to ask. Stupid to not ask any of them.

I'm glad it's renewed. Although, I hope they get their serialized storytelling act together a bit. I do enjoy the characters and overall situation.

Thank goodness it was renewed. A cancellation right now probably would have left it extremely unresolved.

A tracker most likely. It was a disappointing moment as I had hoped he ad a change of heart.

So. What did Snyder push.
I figure it was a tracker given to him by the black jackets. The offered him the best deal. Better than that lady and better than the Bowman family!

I was hoping he changed his mind too.

2nd season review here.

I thought the 2nd season started out slow and we actually lost ground story-wise. Season one had ended with the capture of a rap and the gauntlet. Bram and the science teacher were talking of exploring outside the city to get equipment to spy on the raps. We even saw a glimpse of life at the infamous factory. Exciting stuff that has promise.

Unfortunately the 2nd season didn't develop any of that. For the first half of the season, the story devolved to putting the family back together. A little of that is fine but not the main focus of the series. They get Charlie back and then Bram is gone. The Bram acts all stupid. Annoying.

I think the 2nd half of the season or maybe a bit later, they re-found their voice. They had some really intense scenes. Some of the gun battles were fantastic. The scene in the park was intense. Etc. They started getting back on track. But, they never moved the plot forward. We end the 2nd season not learning anything new at all about the raps. Nothing more about their goals. Nothing more about what is going on at the factory. The gauntlet was used only very briefly to detain a drone. Instead, we got family squabbles and infighting between resistance groups. Not a good trade!

The only new thing we learned that I can recall is that the block was scheduled to be empty within 2 years, before the total rendition occurred.

I'm glad the series is renewed for a 3rd season but I hope the line about the real war starting is true. The showrunners seem to want a 13 episode, serialized season but they're going to have to learn how to do it better than they have. Look at the story progress made on shows like The Expanse and Game of Thrones over the course of a short season.

The 3rd season better cover the Bowman's life outside the colony in a new guerilla type of war against the raps. Don't go back to a bloc and focus on the family drama and angst. That can be there but it can't be the primary focus anymore.

Mr Awe

I was just left with a lot of questions (maybe a second viewing will help)

What do the Raps really look like? Was the glowing sphere their "essence", or a power supply?

Why have Broussard and Will been spared? A rebel faction of the Raps?

Who are the no masks that killed the red hat's? Were they freeing the people, or just getting them ready to go? (Those scenes felt like a super clear Holocaust analogy)

What exactly is the factory? Do people get used up there, or changed, or even something benign?

Where have we seen the actress who played the Red Hand leader before? She seems REAL familiar. I thought she did a great job, and sorry she got taken out so quickly

Laura Innes is most known for ER, and then after that she was in two short-lived shows, The Event and Awake.

Thank you!! Yes, the Event. That is where I remember her from. She was great in that...Too bad she got knocked off in this show. They seemed to have knocked off a lot of their best actors this season

My guess is the raps are AI or aliens uploaded to machines. The factory is where humans have their consciousnesses forcibly uploaded into machines because the raps have a dogmatic ideology that all sentient life can only survive in this form.
