College peeps. Do you have student loans?

I have loans, but they will be wiped out in short order after I graduate. Where can I get international experience for graduate school AND save enough to pay for said school?

Kuwait, baby.

Ah yes, the US Military told my brother much the same thing. Guess what, he ended up going on Student loans because they said they wouldn't pay. Carefully read the fine print if it is military based.

I've been fortunate enough to not have any student loans thus far. Between merit scholarships, a small filmmaking grant, and my parents investment in Washington State's G.E.T. program (the best investment they've ever made, by far), I've been able to avoid any loans. I've always worked over the summer and at my glorious work study job at dining services during the semester to pay off any living expenses and books.

If I'm accepted into graduate school, though, it will be a different story. There's not enough money to go around to subsidize two college educations at once--my brother will be starting an undergraduate program next year, and it's only reasonable that he gets the same opportunity as me.

I will probably owe about $15,000 to the Ontario government and my bank when all is said and done. I know people who are a lot worse off than that, though.

Nope, but I do have several grants and scholarships. Plus I go to a public school in a state I reside in, which is why I haven't had loans. I am looking forward to getting to work after graduation though.

No student loans yet. I decided to go to a community college, so prices are low enough that last year I had scholarships covering most expenses and my parents were willing to foot the rest since I was the only college kid in the family at the time. This year, the combination of scholarship and my RA position has everything paid off.

The average seems to be about 30 grand among my friends on loans.

Anyway, I've paid my way through school with a combination of savings, a first-year scholarship, and a summer job that doesn't pay well but gives you a ton of hours.

Oh, I will be pulling a one year stint doing IT work for a contractor, not signing up to be shipped out. In fact, I don't think they would have me because of a past medical issue. The overtime will suck, but I should clear enough in one year to pay for my masters program.

Yes, I do. But they're not exactly crippling, they're taken through pay-as-you-earn so you never actually handle the lost money, the repayment only activates over a certain salary level, deactivates if your salary falls below it, there's no punishment for never paying them if you're under that level, and they expire after a certain (fairly high) number of years.
Sweetest loan ever really :)

Um...I want one!

My own student loans totalled $256 for one semester, which was my last one since I had managed to pay as I went until the very end. Unfortunately that probably dates me unbelievably.

My oldest daughter graduated with a degree in Journalism from University of Oregon in 2007 and owes about $25,000 for about a $50,000 education.

My youngest daughter is attending a private university where tuition, room and board is $19,000 per year. Fortunately she has a $10,000 per scholarship and some grants so I figure she'll end up owing about the same amount of money when she's done unless she agrees to sign a few years of her life to a hospital corporation that will carry her.
