I’ve recently acquired a set of the original series collector’s edition on VHS and noticed that they used the edited syndicated versions. I was wondering if this was also the case for The Next Generation as well, if any edits were made at all. I’m only aware that it is the only home video release of the two part version of Encounter at Farpoint.

I don't know but I remember "The Best of Both Worlds" was released on one VHS as a movie. There was no break for the cliffhanger but still included a second title sequence. Because I was a kid I assumed the cliffhanger was actually after the weapon was fired and revealed it didn't work.
Wasn't there a box at some point with all the two parters joined as one hour and a half episode?
For me first time watching TBOBW was a hour and half version so there was no cliffhanger, later the cliffhanger was a surprise.
